Ok so I just bought one of those unversal Hurst pistol grip knobs because I hate the stock knob my car came with. It came with all the thread adapters and for my 2002 GT and the 12mm-1.75 adapter is the one that fits perfectly. My problem is when i screw the knob on I cant get in to face the right direction. It always is facing to the right or to the back. It also came with a bunch of black jam nuts which I have no clue what they are for. Has anyone ever installed this knob or a universal knob similar to it. If anyone could tell me how to correctly install it it would be greatly appreiciated. Thanks.

Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.

i have the exact same on, with the exact same problem, so i took a bolt about 1/4 by 1/2 an inch that will slide in to the and hole in the pistol grip and if it didnt line up right i just took it off and ground a little off the bolt, untill it was perfect

Oh. Does anyone know what the black "jam" nuts are supposed to be used for?

Sorry about butting in, but is your old shift knob black leather? If so do you want to get rid of it.

OK...

  • put the jam nut and run it all the way down
  • put the shifter knob on and run it all the way down to the jam nut then back it off just enough so it looks right
  • hold the handle in place and turn the jam nut up to the handle
  • while holding the handle, snug up the jam nut with a wrench
