Difficult. It's not like it can't be done (never been stranded because of it) but it takes some effort before it wants to snap into reverse. Sometimes it goes in easy but after the car sits in the garage for several hours (engine/tranny are cold) the chances of a difficult shift into reverse seem to be increased.
Now with a couple of days on the Hurst shifter it seems to be getting better (or I'm just getting used to it!)...still not sure if I'm 100% happy with it though although the position of the ball and stick are MUCH better than the factory shifter and I'm not in a hurry to go back to the factory unit for that reason alone.
Does the MGW make snapping sounds like the Hurst or is it nearly silent like the factory shifter? I watched the MGW videos and the shifter action didn't seem particularly smooth, especially the 2-3 shift (similar to the Hurst?) but maybe more silent. I'm considering the MGW as an option if I decide I can't live with the Hurst but I REALLY don't want to buy another shifter that I'm unhappy with...especially a $300 one!!
I think the MGW is very smooth. It's stiff but that's what you want. It's a very positive feel. I don't think it makes any sounds. Well, it's not silent, but it's not loud.

I'll PM you and make you a deal if I decide to sell it!! I'm still on the fence...I mean, I LOVE the look, feel, and positioning of the shifter and think that many of the problems with hard shifting might be due to the transmission itself which are magnified by the short throw of the Hurst...and it IS getting better after driving it for three days. I still have under 1K on my odometer so I might be havin' the break-in blues with the transmission as well.
I also know with my previous 5.0 Mustangs (90GT and 95 Cobra) I thought the transmissions themselves were 'notchy' and the reverse shift when cold was difficult until I replaced the fluid with synthetic on both of them.
...lots too consider before I plunk down $300 on the MGW...
