Now before anyone bashes it and says, "You should've got a Tri-Ax or Pro 5.0" just hear me out.
I love the way this thing shifts, 1,000,000 times better than stock. Only complaint I have is my 2nd to 3rd shift. I need to really think about it before I do it and it needs to be gentile cause if I try and shift it like I used to shift my stock one, missed shift.
Am I just not used to it, is their something wrong with it or did I really make a boo boo and buy this thing.
I never changed any of the springs and such, left it the way it came from the factory. Any thoughts?

Hate to say it but people are going to tell you, you probably got the wrong shifter. When I swapped to my Pro 5.0 I really did not have to get use to it. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd is real easy. All I really do is push up at an angle and goes right in. No trouble at all. You really should not have to think before you shift. Thinking takes time. Not good for racing.

I actually do more praying instead of thinking before my 2nd-3rd shift.

If you're talking about the Hurst Billet Plus shifter, it sounds like the spring adjustment is set wrong. I have one in my '03 GT, and couldn't miss 3rd if I tried. The spring is adjusted a bit tight on mine, so I need to use a bit of effort to get it out of neutral into 1st or reverse. The advantage of having it a bit tight is it literally snaps right into the center gate where 3rd/4th are.

I can't swear it helps, but I went with the retro style Hurst chrome stick with the Hurst T handle on it also. With the T turned at a bit of an angle, I can hit 3rd by just using the heel of my hand.

If you go to the Mr. Gasket (they own Hurst) website, you can contact tech support, and they should be able to give you some advice on fine-tuning the spring. I've emailed them before, and they're pretty good about getting back to you with accurate info.

Thanks for your input. I tried a few different shifting techniques and it seems to be a little better. I will practice some more tonight and tomorrow night at the track.

I think I figured it out. I have to make a diagonal shift like I am slamming it into fifth. It has gone into third every time.
B.T.W. I am speed shifting, not letting off of the throttle while shifting.
This shifter is friggin AWESOME!!
I can't wait for tomorrow night at Kinston Dragway.

My friend had a hurst on his 5.0 and hated it. He moved to a pro 5.0 and loved it. My other two friends have the steeda tri-ax. Now if I actually had a 5 speed then Id get the tri-ax.
