Hurst Short Throw getting HOT

I have the Hurst Short Throw shifter installed and have loved it since day one. I just noticed something the other day and wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this. After driving for about 20 miles, I touched the metal shaft with the Hurst logo just below the shift knob and noticed it was very hot!

I realize that the shift linkage sits right above the exhaust pipes, but wow, I was suprised at how much heat was conducted up the shaft. It wasn't blazing hot to the point of being untouchable, but it was noticably more than I would expect.

Have any of you noticed this as well?

I still have the OEM shifter, and I was surprised at how warm to the touch that got as well. I know that mine, after only a few minutes of driving gets warm enough that if my hand is cold I just stick it down in the shift boot to warm it back up.

ill look for it this week, although the tempurates here wont be as hot as it was last week.

Yes, I noticed it as well. I can feel the heat coming through the firewall off the Cat's as well. Especially on 80+ days. If you have the stock shifter you won't notice it because the boot goes all the way up to the shifting knob.

I have the Hurst and have not had any heat problems. I put the stock rubber boot on the Hurst when I put it together and pushed it as far down as I could, perhaps thats whay keeping the shifter cool. I still have a problem wth heat off the firewall.

Being completely stock, I also notice a good amount of heat coming through the shifter. When stuck in traffic, a good amount of heat also makes it through the firewall and floor as well.

Get an MGW shifter and you'll know what love really is. Not only is it fully adjustable including the throw length, but it's all precision machined top shelf materials and comes with dynomat and insulation to cure heat and noise problems for good. To top it all off, all you have to do is push it forward without even thinking and it will hit 3rd gear without even looking or feeling for 3rd.....just push it forward. I just ditched a $280 Steeda Triax.....no comparison at all.

I also pushed the boot down and have no heat problems on the shifter, the heat from the firewall is a differnt story. On hot days it feels like the freakin heater is on... ....dyno-mat?

The heat buildup in the trans alone will travel up the shifter handle. Most metals do conduct heat fairly well... DynoMat does make sheets with a foil backing that will help reflect heat.
I have never felt any heat in the auto handle at all. Plus I have never felt any heat coming off of the firewall But thanks to the O/R H it does put one helluva vibration in the firewall/floorboard however

Dyno mat is what a lot of audio shops use in the trunk when you get subs. It keeps the trunk and body panels from rattling.

I also have the Hurst short throw on my car. If its hot outside (and it gets pretty darn toasty in SoCal) it does get pretty hot. I have a Redline Goods shiftboot on the car, and its pushed pretty far down so I can see the 'HURST' on the side of it. But, its all heat transfer so I don't worry about it one bit. Nothing is wrong with the shifter, its still doing its job.

Mine gets hot too, but I just start moving it more and it'll cool down. Put a T handle on it and you'll be wishing for that heat when it gets cold. I find it to be worth more than the 162.00 I spent for it.

Don't let it stay in direct sun light during summer. It will burn you. Found that out the hard way, also I have the T-handle so it will get hot. Now I cover it when I park in direct sunlight.

thats good, but this is a Hurst thread..Not a plug for MGW

Yeah, my Hurst gets hot as well..

I'm glad there is a plasic knob to isolate the heat.. Otherwise, shifting would suck..
