I'm looking at installing a hydraulic clutch in my '66 Fairlane 390/4 Spd. I was looking at the JMC set up. Has anyone tried this and if so how well does it work? Can you use it with a long finger pressure plate? I'm also open to any other ideas of hydraulic clutches that may be in use. I remember an article i na Mustang magazine some time ago where they put a hydraulic unit in a '67 or '68 Mustang. I'd appreciate any help.

The JMC kit for a Mustang uses a pusher type of slave cylinder that mounts on the transmission and pushes the fork forward so it won't work if you're using the original bellhousing that utilizes the original equalizer bar, which pushes the fork rearward. JMC might have the puller type of slave cylinder arrangement but you might query these folks: http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/ Scroll down and look for the Fairlane forum. Good luck.

Concentric slave

This one from JMC sure looks like a concentric slave (inside the bellhousing) that is used for a Toploader. Not much going on at FordMuscle's Fairlane forums.

Contact JMC. I know they make them for toploaders, but don't know how they hook it up.gjz30075 is right, it is a pushing system from them. Anything would work, doesn't matter on the clutch itself. It just needs to have the arm pushed or pulled as the case may be. Hyd is just another way to do it. Cable maybe easiest for you, but JMC's may be easy also. It is work it either way you go. Z-bars just suck. GREAT looking car BTW.

Call them, they are pretty good at fielding questions, my JMC setup is for the modern T-5 not the Z bar oem, but I know that they have a center-mounted type setup for other trannys.

The JMC kit that you have listed is the one you need. It's got a hydraulic throw out bearing so it doesn't matter at that point if you have a pusher or a puller set up as it alll fits inside the bellhousing. I've been through all this on my Mustang project and this is the way I finally ended up on a T5 conversion (among other things). It all fits in very neatly but I can't tel you how it works as yet as it's a winter project and I'm haven't hit the street yet.

Andy

Oh, sorry, I missed that JMC item. I'd imagine you'd have to drill a hole in the bellhousing for the line. My buddy put a Kiesler 5 speed kit in his Barracuda, using a concentric slave and it works fantastic. No bleed line, like the one you're showing and it was a bit scary about whether or not it'll work. According to Keisler instructions, pour in fluid, pump a bit and let it sit. I'll be d&^%ed, he had a pedal after letting it sit overnight with the cap off the master. Works like a champ and a pedal effort that's really light.

No need for drilling as you already have the factory hole that the pivot arm used. Since you don't need any of that mechanical stuff any longer you have lots of room to run the lines.

Andy
