Hypothetical exhaust question.....

In a strict emissions state, would there be any benefit (sound quality, or performance) to splicing a Mac Prochamber into the stock mid pipe?

Pa emissions experts ...HELP!

I have the "chamber" part already, and was planning on getting the replacement legs w/cats, but I've been reading posts here and elsewhere about the Law having no zero tollerance for anything other than the factory mid pipe.

If what I've heard is just BS, then most likely I'll end up with those replacement legs. I'm new to Pa. and have not gone through an inspection/emissions test yet. I'm have the stock mid pipe on now, so it's good to go for now, but I need to know the facts for future mods. Thanks,

The performance gains by cutting and welding in a prochamber to the stock mid-pipe would be very limited, and I doubt you'de really see any gains. Remember, prochambers are meant to be used without catalytic converters. The new models with cats are for people with street emission checks, but then again, they only use one hi-flow Mac converter on each side, compared to using two stock restrictive cats on each side.

I agree with the comments above in saying, just get a Prochamber with cats already welded in, or just swap back to the stock h-pipe when going in for inspection and emission checks. Also, be sure not to rev your motor around cops or do anything that might draw their attention to your exhuast.

Get the catted legs to go with the chamber. If you fail emissions test, then swap in the stock H pipe. When done, put the catted Prochamber back in. It will be worth it.

I dont think pa is that strict, im pretty sure you could have an catted aftermarket mid pipe

Get together with some fellow performance car types at a local hangout or car show and find out what is ok and what is not and what you can get away with. They are 3 different things.

There's what you can do, what you are not supposed to do and then there's what you do.

Thanks to all for the info. This is just the kind of input I was looking for. Sounds like the catted legs, and hope I pass the sniffer. I actually have read accounts of guys passing with O/R Prochambers, MILs without the tester looking underneath.

I guess I'm really questioning the specific emissions levels and efficiency of the aftermarket mid-pipe with cats and O2 sensors in place. With this setup, I really can't forsee and problems in passing, do you guys?

Of course, I asked one of the guys at work about it earlier today told me, "...you shouldn't have to worry about getting hassled by a cop 'cause you're an old guy. The cops usually only give young kids a hard time..." I'm 36.

Any aftermarket mid-pipe with catalytic converters should be smog legal. You should also be able to pass a visual state inspection. I pass with my setup in the strict state of Va. I think if you were in California, you'de have more of a problem.
