Hey guys, just looking for some opinions here on my combo.

This past May my stock 5.0L bit it I am just finishing putting together my longblock which is a 331 stroker bottom end with FRPP E-303 cam, and edelbrock performer 6037 heads.

My question to you guys is what would you guess horsepower would be with using the stock intake, TB, injectors, and MAF? Now, I know that you are all thinking that I am an idiot for using that stock stuff with my new motor here, and I know that using the above mentioned stock parts will give lose me a lot of power and I plan to upgrade them as soon as I can, but for the meantime I may need to use them to make it run so I have a car again. So I am just looking for a hypothetical estimation. Thanks very much for any input.

By the way, my guess is about 260-270 at the flywheel, and maybe 220-230 at the rear wheels. What do you think? Thanks again.

im no expert on fuel injectors, but i would think the 19s would be maxed out. you can find used 24s or 30s pretty easily. dunno about whether or not the MAF will work, but the stock TB is fine.

i think your hp estimates are pretty low... bolt on 5.0s can put down 220 to the wheels. i'd guess your 331 with those heads would have 290-300 at the wheels. do you have a time limit with getting the car back on the road? if not, i'd put on a better intake now so you dont have to do it again later on.

it's all hypothetical anyways, right?

Hello James

I can certainly understand about needing to get the car back together
so you got a way to get around

Now ... having said that ... THAT IMHO ... should be your focus here :Word:

So ... NO ... I would not call you an idiot at all

I understand you're anxious to see the results
BUT
I'd tell you to be paient until you can ... SAFELY ... push it

With those tiny inj's ... you are considerably under fueled

You have got the main work done with the h&c

It seems like a very nice combo
and
You don't wanna hurt it

In your particular situation ... If I was you

First objective would be some 30's with a nice meter of same cal
also
You need a big in tank pump if you don't already have one

Then you should be safe and not burn any pistons

At that point ... it most likely won't run all that great at low pulsewidth
dirving conditons ... but ... you probably can get by until you do up
a nice tune

Also ... the OEM tb will be holding you back a bit
BUT
Not as much as you would think :Word:

It won't be hurting you near as much as the OEM intake

With the fuel issue all squared away
Running the OEM tb/intake ... and ... NO tune

I'd guess about 265 or a bit better to the wheels

Not to be critical or pee pee in your Cheerio's
but
Seems like that cam is kinda tiny for that stroker

anyway Mr. James ... those would be a few of my thoughts

Thanks for the input. Obviously I will do as much as I can before I need it, but who knows how much that will be. I agree that the cam is a little small for the stroker, I just got a great deal on it and decided that it would be a good cam for the street, which is what the car will see 99% of the time, 5,500 rpm and under. 1.7 RR's may be something I will look into to give me around .529" lift, but I have not written anything in stone yet.

I also agree that the fuel system will be a little weak for the combo I have, but I figure at 5,000 rpm and under I should be alright. I will closely monitor my A/F mixture when I first get it fired up and we will go from there. I am thinking that some 24 lb/hr injectors should suffice, but again, I wont say anything for sure until I have monitor my A/f when the car runs again.

Thanks very much for the input, very much appreciated.

You never said what your plans were for a tune

If you are gonna do custom

I just can't see any valid reason to skimp on inj size :Word:
cause
The more suitable, larger size inj can be setup for all conditions

If you are gonna try and bypass a tune

Yes ... 30's could cause you issues at low pulsewidth conditions
and
24's could help in those situations
but
I'd be wanting to elevate the pressure
to handle the smaller 24's at WOT situations

Again ... don't know your tuning application

Never the Less ... which ever way you go
you D O N' T wanna go T O O lean

One more thing

Under maximum load conditions
you can really be working things to the max ... B E F O R E 5K

Like you said ... Watch that ratio ... CLOSELY

Good Luck with all your plans

Thanks again. Yes, I definitely plan to have it tuned some way or another, and yes, an AFPR will be something that will definitely be part of it.
