I am a noob!

Well actually not really, I used to go by the name Blackstang8 when I had my old '92 4banger.

Just today I finally bought my dream car! It is a '66 coupe with original 289 auto (this will be swapped out with a T-5 down the road...) This car is pretty rough, the interior is totally SHOT, but the body and frame have a good base to start with. It originally had a white Pony Interior, power steering and that's about all I've seen so far. I just bought and picked up the car today, and it was a LONG trip (15 hours, 5 of which were spent getting it on the dolley... long story) but it is in my driveway and I couldn't be happier! Tomorrow it will be going to it's winter residence (in-laws house) until we buy a house in the spring, hopefully with a massive driveway and garage lol

I also have a fun project car waiting in the wings until I am better organized, and I've had it for about a month now. It is a '77 Pinto sedan with a 2.3L auto (also saying bye-bye in place of a T-5). It is also in need of some TLC, but shouldn't take much to get on the road. I will post pics of both cars tomorrow after a good night's sleep!

I gotta give you guys credit that can restore a car in that condition.
I like the Pinto, would be cool havin that as a daily driver around town.
I used to like doing restorations also when I was younger (never thought I'd be saying that) but the stang would have been to much for me to tackle.

Looked like that yard has a few classics just sitting around, if you get back there again snap a few more pics of what they have.
So long as you have a decent chassis to start with thats half the battle on a resto.

I know what you mean about having a long drive and a garage, I put in a concrete driveway last year myself but couldn't get the time to build a garage yet.

I think everyone here went on vacation, been a ghost town lately.

thanks for the comments. Yes, it is a major project, but it will be a labour of love.

I have wanted one of these since I was a kid, and now finally have the resources and $ to do it. Believe it or not, this is the best looking one I have come across for the money. Most cars up here in Canada are completely beyond help due to the salt we use on the roads.

The Pinto will be a blast to drive, and I have owned 3 2.3L already and love 'em. Have to be economical AND fun...

This place is a great resource, I've learned tons already... can't wait to update you guys on each installment...

hmmm

I'm thinking outside back to Vintage Burgundy, or something along those lines... The inside will either be parchment/dk red pony or standard black. Depends on how hard that colour combo is to find, I'd be cool with black. I've seen some interior kits on ebay for $600-$700 anyone had any experience with them? what's the quality like?

This car sat in a barn (with 20 other Mustangs - 3 of which were fastbacks) for over 20 years... hence the low mileage and destroyed interior. It is the most complete car I've seen for $1000.

Am I wrong in asuming eastern Canada? We have lots of good mustangs in the lower mainland to choose from as well as lots south of the border in the Seattle area but they are a little more in cost. I think my next one will be a 65 fastback a-code and I just happened to find one that sat in a barn as well. Just need 6 grand to pick her up.

Anyways, take lots of before pics, they're priceless when the car is finally done.
To bad you don't have a heated garage for the winter to get started earlier.
I'm gonna try and get mine moved under cover tomorrow but there's no heat there Thinking of making a 55 gal. barrel wood burner.
(You guys in California have no idea how good you've got it weather wise)

Coulda had my garage built by now but got caught up this year in caring for two neglected dogs that need me more than my car did. No regrets when it comes to taking care of them.

www.texasmustang.com has a free catalog if you want one. Been a big help to me, took about 6 weeks for me to get mine.

Good luck on it and post pics as you go, I'd love to take a tour through that yard you got yours from.

yes Ontario... I have heard western cars are still decent, god I hate road salt!!!

The yard I got this one from had 21 in total, many were beyond help, but quite a few convertibles. One couple picked up a '66 convertible the same day I did for $1000. I'll post some pics of the yard tonight after work...

btw JD, that's my fiance in the pic, and yes he DOES need a shave

I know I won't be the only one wanting to see more yard pics here, esp. the fastbacks if you got shots of them.
Well, he's not the only one that could use a shave right now, I'm taking it easy for another day or so here.

you can see the backend of the red fastback at the end of the row. Some shmuck decided to take the motor out via wooden 4x4's... it's nearly crushed in half

the burgundy convertible in the foreground is in very good shape actually...

Thats a shame on the red fastback, never ceases to amase me how stupid some people can be ruining a classic.

oh that reminds me... the other red fastback, which I don't have a picture of, has the horrible 'fender flares' made out of thin sheet metal, revetted on. Broke my heart... Some people shouldn't be allowed to have these cars :S

By the way JD, the car you posted is right up my alley.. I have printed it out as inspiration for my car.. it also made me decide to remove the side 'scoop' emblems. Looks much slicker without. I love the stance on that car, not too extreme, but still looks aggressive. Thanks!
