ok as most of you know i just got my newish motor put in my car. well i had a few bugs i had to get worked out. i was having bad vacum problems that i couldnt find so i took it to the ford dealership to get it fixed. lets get a little side tracked here when i first installed the motor with improper timing and bad vacum leaks it would flat out haul arse. but back on subject i took it to them they fixed my vacum leaks and set my timing and it got SLOW im talking about i could really notice it. so me and slow95gt decided we where going to race just to see. and he fokin beat me by a car.

i guess what im wanting to know is what is wrong here. does anyone sugest me try anything to make it faster. and WHY did he beat me? it doesnt make sense.

well here is what my car has and what his car has. tell me what yall think is wrong.
i have a 1990 coupe with a rebuilt stock bottom end, b-cam, gt40-p's with crane springs, explorer upper and lower intake, stock throttle body, stock mass air meter, a.o.d and full exhuast.

josh has a 1990 lx convertable with a stock bottom end, e7's, t-moss upper and lower intake, explorer throttle body, sn95 mass air meter, full exhaust and a 5 speed.

so why did he beat me by a car. that a.o.d, mass air, and stock throttle body couldnt have hurt me that bad could they? either way we are taking the 5 speed stuff out of his 86 GT and putting it in my coupe.

and just a little FYI on the race i spun about 10' and he spun about 8" and thats when he pulled the car on me and we helled dead even after that.

BK... tell us about the rebuild. What's in it? Is it a 302 build? Cam?

Nevermind.. I see it now

Open up your inlet (TB and Meter), consider a torque converter, shift kit, and gears.

it wasnt rebuilt, its an original 01' exploder bottom end with about 50k on it, they shipped it to me with the pistons polished!!!! Then I bought the heads from beast, went to mustangs unlimited in lawrenceville, got the springs, swapped in my bcam, and my exploder intake, I ran it with longtubes and a full exhaust, a 65mm tb, 70mm maf and stock injectors, and about 16deg. timing, this is with the t5 behind it, and it flat hauled ass!!!(beating ls1 cars) me and my dad ran when I had that engine in my 86gt, and I kicked his ass, like 10 or so cars!! now the same engine(!) with an aod behind it, just stock tb and maf and headers, and I had him by a solid car length all through the gears!!!

all in all im kind of depressed about the engine, I put some work into it to make it right and to hold up to some abuse, and I beat it with my basically stock vert

idk whats up, but call me bk!! well do some stuff to it today and see what happens...................

I am a devoted AOD guy and i run a transgo shift kit , 4.10s , and a 3000 precision industries converter . That combo on my stock long block and cam with a RAP stock intake runs high 12s. The gears and converter dropped well over a second off my times. I do have most bolt ons and a full suspension though too.

i am a BIG aod fan too. but if it means swapping to a 5 speed to run then im gonna do it. i might just need a convertor. i was leaving off idle in the race too.

The stock converte holds you back BIG time. You can't really launch the car at anything over around 1600 rpm. My 93 has a shift kit and 4.10s and it runs 14.0s all day long NA. If you do decide on a little spray the stock converter seems to love it. I went from 14.0s to 12.7s on a 100 shot.

and i dont want to spray it. i want to be able to beat him NA no power adder. i should take him now. it confuses both of us. should i swap to a five speed or get a stall convertor, bigger throttle body and mass air then try again?

What gear do you have? It keeps coming up and you havnt said. Keep the aod if you go to the strip you will rape guys with more engine. Consistancy is a bitch with a stick and a changing track.

if you wanna see what gears are in the rear, jack up the rear end, spin one of the rear tires one full rotation and count how many times the driveshaft spins. if it spins about 3 1/2 times, they're 3.55's, if it spins a little over 3 times, they're 3.08's and so on.
