I have a 88 ford mustang with a 2.3 I dont know much about the block but i was wandering if anyone knew what it would take to make it a turbo and would that help gass mileage and would it help it accelerate if not what would?

Thanx

Ok i found an old post and the turbo is a whole different engine so that is out of the question for now. But the question now is what will help the gas milage as much as possible

Drive easy?

I used to get 28-29 mpg on my old '90 2.3L 5 speed driving mostly open road.

Some people have reported over 30mpg with the '87-88 Turbo Coupes. Don't expect that good of economy with a Mustang, though; the TC is more aerodynamic. I'm lucky to get 26 out of my SVO, but I average 28-29 with my '94 Toyota pickup(2WD 2.4L). I actually got 32mpg out of it driving almost strictly highway.

Honestly anyone who's gotten 30 mpg out of a turbo coupe, I'd like to know how.

When mine was bone stock I drove it out to St. Louis and got 26 mpg there & back (running anywhere from 70-80 mph).

After I built the new engine, I went out to St. Louis at one point and got....26 mpg there and back. Which was with a totally different setup and a blow-thru VAM.

I dunno. Maybe those guys just drive slower.

Yeah, that's why I said "some people have reported 30mpg" and not "Turbo Coupes get 30mpg..." Some people claim their '87-93 5.0s get 28+mpg. Some people are also bad at simple math. Others use their fuel gage to check economy.

My n/a 2.3 does get 28mpg... and yes, I am doing the math right... lol
I've seen 30 a couple of times, but just can't seem to keep it there.

Currently, I'm only seeing around 26. But I'm still working some tune stuff.
Hope to crack 30 consistently once the tune is refined....

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

best I have ever gotten with my 93 a4ld was 26mpg at 75mph. in town it's like 17-18mpg. I would also love to know how to squeeze some more economy out of it.
would a larger TB and fenderwell CAI help much?
I have a spare 65mm laying around, but something tells me that may be too big.
