I BLOWER HELP PLEASE!

I finished my blower install and have multiple problems.Where to start,I guess we'll start the oil leaks,vortech says no pipe dope or teflon tape on the oil feeds,but i've leaks at all the pipe fittings.Afraid I'm gonna strip or start breaking things.#2 running lean at idle gets a little better if you feed it a little gas.Talked to my brother he thinks it may be a vacum leak cause it is idling a little ruff and the connection to the boost retard box comes off real easy so i'm gonna cable tie all my vaccum lines,hoping that is the problemsince the fmu works off vaccum.I know the fmu is a bandaid but my budget is about shot,can't afford injecters and a tune at least not this year.# 3 boost gage is showing vaccum only no boost even if I give gas,I plugged of the throttle bodyand the port that used to go to the charcol canister.Or is it normal to show just vaccum at idle/part throttle.Any help would be appreciated

Well, I know what Vortech says but if you do it the right way you can use thread sealant. First buy a good quality sealant. When you asemble the fitting start the sealant a few threads back from the end of the fitting that way you won't have a sealant bubble so to speak that could come loose and lodge in the feed oil filter. In other words if you have no sealant on the end of the fitting it can't get in the oil line. Now When I did my first blower install the fitting at the oil sending unit tap was bad. I called Vortech and they sent me a whole new feed kit. If the kits new all of the pieces will be under warranty. Running lean at idle....how do you know? Do you have a wide band AF meter on it? Any blower install should include a wide band meter for safe AF. Tyrap all of the lines that will see vacuum or boost that way you won't have to worry about blowing one off under boost. Put a vacuum gauge on it and make sure the FMU is seeing engine vacuum. You will not see boost by revving the engine in neutral. Go through each problem solve it and go to the next. If you do have a vacuum leak that would explain the lean idle. Although if the FMU isn't seeing vacuum it'll be rich not lean. Mike

Sorry it took so long to get back on but I have an autistic 14yro that isn't real good at sharing the computer with his old man,lol.I do have a wide band on it and I'm running 24lb injectors

So then you do see it lean at idle? The MAS and injectors are matched? Does the FMU have the correct disc for 24# injectors? Try to solve your vacuum issue first. No tune is going to help untill you sort that out. mike

First thanks for your responces Mike.I do have the sampling tube for the24# injectors and disc for the 24# injectors in the fmu.The MAS is a C&L which I've heard are junk.Are there special MAS set up for the xtra air moving past it due to the blower?I know I should be out there f!@#$&g with it but I a little burned out,been out there every night this week.Gonna step back and take a break tonight.Might make a few phone calls tomorrow(tuners).So far I've done everything myself to the car(heads,cam ect......) cause I do enjoy wrenching,but tuning is probably way beyond me.Gonna fix the oil leaks(CAREFULLY pipe dope) and check for vaccum leaks,that I can handle.But I want it right considering what I've spent so far so I guess I blow a few more $ to get it tuned right.Anyone out there know of any tuners in the Youngstown,OH aera.It's right in between Cleve and Pitt

Need help

First, yes you'll see vacuum at idle should be 10-14, the boost should only come on under load, so just revving the engine will not produce boost on the gauge. I'd check the fuel pressure and make sure you have good vacuum to the FMU and ignition retard before jumpin on it. Also, my C&L didn't well work at low rpms, so I changed to a PRO M. Works great! Another thought, you might want to go though the idle checklist in this forum and just verify that everything is set right.

Fix all your current problems with vacuum and the supercharger installation. Then if you still have idle problems, see the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems. Everything you need to find and fix idle problems is in there.

The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.
