I feel Soooooooo DUMB

I just recieved a shippment of some billet parts that i ordered.

Oil cover , and the power steering cover. ANYWYAS i put them in for 30seconds, and realized that the tend to get HOT very quickly and even hotter then most parts under the hood So i'm kinda worried, since they are covers that go over the plastic caps, I'm afraid that they might or could melt the plastic caps which they are sitting on top of. And maybe even cause a Fire !!!?? ..is that possible??
so Now i lost about $69 on all of that crap
should i just remove them !?

They get just as hot as anything else under there would. For example, the plastic is as hot as the metal. Its just that the metal exchanges heat better than plastic.

no offense but thats Not true. while the engine was runing i touched both plastic and the metal covers i put in. The metal was way hotter. Thats what freaks me out, I'm afraid it could cause plastic to melt or cause somekind of fire

No, the metal transfers heat better. Why exactly would metal be hotter if the plastic and metal are in the same environment? This is like high school dude

Actually it is true. If you have plastic and metal in an oven at 400 degrees, they are both 400 degrees. It is only the fact that the metal is better at transferring the heat than plastic, that is why it feels more hot.

So you put a cookie tray in the oven at 425 deg. with confectioners paper and cookies on it. After 8 minutes you take the whole thing out. You bet your bakin' bippie the metal tray will burn you, but will the paper? Nope, even tho they just came out of the same 425 deg. oven. Certain things retain heat better than others and in the same respect certain things disipate heat (cool off) faster than others. This is why the plastic feels cooler than the metal even tho they're in the same engine compartment.


BTW.......what are the plastic valve covers bolted to? Aluminum (metal) heads with scorching hot headers below them and I haven't seen mine turn to liquid yet.

They wouldnt sell them if they caused parts to melt, you'll be fine.
