dang yall are doggin alittle rough aint ya? anyone with a mustang, camaro, or whatever, that says they've never puched it to see what all it would do, is full of crap. you dont buy a mustang to poot around town on sundays. And before I get raped for this, im not sayin its ok to ride around raising hell and acting stupid, but to me this sounds like a case of bad timing to be hammering it. And the guy was just asking for advice on how to handle the ticket, not a mom and pop lecture guys...geeze

The advice being given is pretty much being ignored. What he needs to do is just face up to the judge, be direct, honest, and respectful, pay his fines, and do whatever else is asked of him (traffic school, community service, whatever). Oh, and be grateful he's not sitting in a jail cell right now. And then, in the future, keep all triple-digit speeds limited to the track. Simple enough?

Speak for yourself. I only drive mine on weekend and never take it over 75 unless i'm at the track. My wife cry's all the time that i drive slower then her grandma. I have no problem driving the speed limt. I would say 80% of my driving is 5 under the posted limt. I guess that comes from many many years and miles of driving. I put over 120,000 miles a year on my Volvo 770 and never have gotten a speeding ticket in my life.

I'm with turd, mine only sees the road on the weekends and it is always about 5 under the posted speed limit, yes, I have put it to the floor to see what its got a few times but I (Let Off) well before the car reaches the speed limit. I drive mine about 2 times a month right now, so I will be damned if I am going to go out and get a ticket in it.

Yes... I knew exactly what it was thats why i said.. " id hate to see a rig running 100 mph down the road" duhh

Im no stranger to the trucking industry, my grandpa is a retired trucker for Roadway, one of my best friends drives a Peterbuilt 379 for a living, and we have a yard full of Kenworth T800 day cabs that haul our steel to the job sites. Ive been around it all my life.

I got caught going 94 in a 65 on Thanksgiving. I considered myself lucky that I didn't get felony extracted and taken to jail.

I paid the $350, insurance hasn't caught it yet, and i'm up for renewal.. *shrug*.

Of course I have and I owned up to them too.

So, if he'd have hit a minivan full of kids and killed them, would "It was a dumb mistake." make it all better? NO.

I got my first ticket in 12 years of driving last summe. 45MPH in a 35MPH on what I consider a questionable road for such a slow limit (it's pretty much a 2-lane highway with guardrails on both sides) Plus i was the only car in both directions at the time. Basically, if there was ever a situation where it was acceptable to do 45MPH on a 35MPH road...it was this one. Got me on radar from a long ways off. In fact, i saw him and even thought I was fine. Guess not.

I appealled, explained the situation and brought up my squeaky clean record.

Nope..didn't get off. Couldn't beat a lousy $100 10MPH over ticket. Now i gotta pay about $1000 in surchages over the next 5 years because of a lousy 10MPH over. Damn economy

To each their own. I'd never go and face the judge on my own. Lawyer up and shut up... Let him talk. That's what you pay him for. At least in my case, my lawyer knows all the prosecutors and judges and will make it go to a no points violation with a big fine.. I'd rather get a big seat belt ticket than something with points that will kill my driving record for years.

2 sugestions based on experience:
1. Definately lawyer up as noted above. Get a lawyer with good connections in the town you will be going to court; he may be able to plead you down.
2. If you're under 18, have a parent (preferrably Dad) with you showing concern.

My son had a few tickets; got 98 in a 45; judge saw I was pissed and had addressed it on the home front (I put his car on blocks for 2 months-and it was a car he had paid for); lawyer got it reduced. It saved my son on the next ticket he got a few months later. If the original ticket (98mph) had been in the records, he would have been screwed. Well worth the $1,000 (he paid) for the lawyer.

In that case I'd probably have taken you to jail , and any words coming out of your mouth would have fallen on very deaf ears.

If you had to work traffic accidents where someone's 7 year-old kid is all jacked up and getting lifeflighted off the highway because some turd was driving too fast or have a buddy flip his car and kill himself in high school, you'd feel the same way.

Can't say I even want you to succeed in catching a break on this one. I think you should either pay it or the judge should show no leniency. Sorry bud.

well even with all the stuff i had done to my car I NEVER drove that thing like a moron on the street, thats asking for trouble in something like that, thats why we have local road courses to go to, i have done stupid **** in a very wide open abandoned industrial parking lot but NEVER on public road ways, take it to the track or ride in the back those are the 2 options, and my advice on the ticket is, take it like a man you screwed up, just dont **** up, there is a difference, the first time you do it is a screw up the next time is a **** up
