Well most of you know that I was really having pormblems with getting my pony started.

Well after I got the engine back from the shop.(new rings, main, oil pump, timing chain, and homed and cleaned.

Well after all of that, me and a few buddys put it all back together and we got it runing good and everything. So after all of that I got 300 miles babyed on it(drove from omaha Ne, to manhattan Ks). Well I started it in the morning on monday when I seen my after market oil gauge was not working after 5 mins( it just went to 10psi and didn't move) and the stock gauge jumps around at ideal. From normal to nothing and I don't get it. But nothings wrong the cars doesn't ping or the rockers don't make noise. But if I drive the car for more then 5 mins the aftermarket gauge dosen't work, and the stock one does but at a light it moves around.

I'm lost again on this too. I must have oil pressure becasue the engine isn't making noise, since the gauge read 10 psi the engine should be crying.

I just don't know what to do, can you help?

If you have any doubts about the gauges working, go to Home Depot's plumbing section and get a cheap mechanical gauge & a tee fitting. Add the gauge under the hood so you can watch it while working on the engine.

The reason your stock gauge went to the ideal pressure is because it's set up on a switch. Mean, that unless your oil pressure drop below a certain predetermined mark, then it wont change. Meaning, that you oil pressure gauge reads the same from the day you drove it out of the dealer ship until now(15+years later). Do you think your engine really carries that same oil pressure? I agree w/ JRichter, go get an el cheapo mechanical to ensure that your aftermarket is working properly.

well it runs fine other then the gauges say I don't have oil pressure. It only started doing this on monday I drove it back to kanasas and it was fine. The guage is auto meter and it worked since it was in the car about 2 years ago. I think the stock one is moving around it is because I dont have a good ground. But both gauge at once???? I think not................

have u had the dizzy pulled since u put it back together?

i pulled mine a couple months after i got the car and the oil pump shaft fell into the pan cause the dipchit that worked on it before took the clip off and installed it from the top:bang: took me for ever to find out y i had no oil press:nonono:

no not since we put it all back in. It ran fine in tell I got here. Also it drives fine no noise. The stock gauge I think is a bad ground and I'm downloading video of the gauge and the car driving and stuff.

Only 20psi at 2000RPM is a little low, at that RPM you should be making full pressure which should be 45-55psi.

My 5.0 idles at 25psi warm and 55psi when about 1500RPM.

I agree that the stock gauge is screwed up. It should return to 0 when you turn the key to ON and start the car

well I got about 200 miles on the car with the gauges being al messed up and I've had no problems with it. So this weekend I'm going to change out the auto meter and play with the stock one. Could it be air in the line or something, or a bad ground for the stock one. Also I took a friend out in the pony and look what I lost. It didn't mess it up. I'm loving this punch list of stuff getting bigger!!!!!!

whats water temp? if over 180 it will make a drop in oil pressure, and not bad idea to check pcv valve and vacume hose, mine fell off engine , oil pressure was low because of it. but could be just a wire grounding issue just putting out some alternative ideas. good luck

Just adding some ideas to ya. my coupe did kinda the same thing. When it would get warmed up to operating temp and then SOMETIMES when i would stop and sit at a light it would read 0 psi of oil, but as soon as i would tap the throttle like maybe raise the r's up 100 it would go fine, it would also bounce around a bit as well. So i went to the parts store got a new $8.51 oil pressure sencer and it works just fine now! How are you running both gauges at once? peace

flush out the line going to your pressure gauge. I remember one time i mistakenly used teflon tape in the fitting of my fuel pressure gauge and it floated up to the gauge and caused false and low readings.
