I raced my buddy in a GSX eclipse. He has quite a bit of stuff done to it, and it's pushing over 300hp right now, I knew I didn't have much of a chance, but I figured I'd try anyway.

We did a pull at 45mph, at about 85 he was abuot a car length and a half in front of me, and still pulling.

Stang needs to be faster! hahaha, my goal is to now be able to pull on him. He is pretty much done building his car, and mine is just getting started.

You guys think i'll have a chance once I get my 4.10's, headers, h-pipe, and upper/lower manifolds?

These are my current right now plans. I deffinatly have a lot more goals and aspirations, but I need to keep my mind set on current, and not get too far off into the distance.

I was just sad to chalk up my first race as a loss to a ricer.

You will need more to catch 300hp (at the wheels). His car is fairly light and if it is an AWD version then he will have very little traction issues where you will have some issues putting what you have now to the ground without some help from some suspension mods.

If you only lost by a car and a half from 45 to 85, that's not so bad. I'd be more worried about from a standstill, if he's got awd, he's going to murder you off the line on the street, and it will be many car lenghts ahead.

The exhaust will help, so will the intake, a pro m meter would be a good choice too.
3.73's might also be more up your alley if the car is a 5 speed.

it's an auto, and he doesn't like to launch it, hard on the clutch.

Sorry about posting this in the wrong area.

Scratch the intakes for now. Get a set of 4.10 gears, full exhaust(long tube headres, high flow cats if you need emissions, flowmasters). I would also start thinking about how you are going to hook up. Maybe, go with a set of lift bars, you might as well buy upper control arms too while you are back there. Also, think about some subframe connectors. They would be a good idea if you decide on the lift bars. Then after all this is done start thinking about speed parts. Intakes, throttle body, mass air, injectors, pulleys.......the possibilities are endless.

IMO, do a shift kit, conveter and 4.10's since you have an auto. Then you may need some stickier tires. That should make a world of difference for your car.

Since you have an auto, and you did decent against him, i'm going to say his car so has where near 300whp. That would probably put him mid 12's against your mid 14's. And that would be an ass whooping.

yeah, I raced a 90 mustang coupe auto when he had edelbrock heads, e303 cam, (can't remember the intake), exhaust and stock gears and I beat him by at least 2 lengths...probably 3 or more. My car was my 1990 LX 5.0 hatchback w/ stock everything except a K & N filter, flowmasters and a centerforce 2 clutch.

The point is your car (being an auto) is probably really slow right now.

I dissagree with needing more power to take the eclipse. First of all, the V8 is going to have a better powerband and that wonderfull thing called torque. Second, the eclipse is not as light as some think, and if it's AWD, it probally is equall if not heavier. Third, even if it's AWD, good traction and well managed torque will take that big advantage away. Us guys running sticky tires and built suspension know what that is about.

If you only lost to that margin, then your not far from beating him. I set of decent heads and intake alone would reverse the outcome in your favor. Once you do a TB, MAF, headers, and the rest of the exaust, not to mention the gear you'll just leave the eclipse. Just the 4.10's alone would probally tie things up.

Your buddy needs to be converted, and if you plan your mods right, he will. I have respect for those cars, but would never own one. I know several converted DSM guys, they got rid of thier DSM's because of the same type of issues as your buddy, never really could use it, kept tearing up transissions and clutches, not to mention blowing other things up. We break things on our cars too, but we can get really strong replacments dirt cheap compared to most other cars.

Ive done the DSM thing but if he was AWD he will own most guys from a stop. Doesnt take much money to make them low 13 sec cars or even 12's with some know how.

SO not true, Any AOD with 3:73 or higher will whip a 5 speed! That is assuming the 5 spd and AOD are stock except the gears on both cars.

if you load up your car with TypeR stickers you could keep up or even beat him. Each sticker (if printed on synthetic paper) is about 4-5 h/p depending on colour and if it's a true typeR.

but maby he was on a closed course but I doubt it. Some people dont live anywhere near a strip. I live like 90 min from the nearest one so it's not too bad.

you dont go from a roll on a closed course

and you're also forgetting you have an advantage over him... that AWD really slows him down on the highway, but then again he's got the turbocharger as well

im in the same boat my buddy has a 99gsx with well over 300hp. Hes throwing down 12.9@104 with a smoked clutch and even though its awd it still goes pretty good on the highway. I can beat him but not by much at the track. 12.8@110 and on the highway its still close but i can barely beat him there too. All i have is h/c/i and a supercharger and 3.55's.
