im in the same boat my buddy has a 99gsx with well over 300hp. Hes throwing down 12.9@104 with a smoked clutch and even though its awd it still goes pretty good on the highway. I can beat him but not by much at the track. 12.8@110 and on the highway its still close but i can barely beat him there too. All i have is h/c/i and a supercharger and 3.55's.

all u have is H/C/I and a S/C and 3:55 and u barley beat him you should smoke him. I'm guessing traction issues. That kind of sounds funny all I have is have is H/C/I and a S/C and 3:55 cause all I have is 3:55's

Yes i have huge traction issues at the track. On the highway i can pull away i just dont like to race on the highway plus his top end runs out on the highway cause of awd drive but he does put up a good fight.

I raced my buddy in a GSX eclipse. He has quite a bit of stuff done to it, and it's pushing over 300hp right now, I knew I didn't have much of a chance, but I figured I'd try anyway.

We did a pull at 45mph, at about 85 he was abuot a car length and a half in front of me, and still pulling.

Stang needs to be faster! hahaha, my goal is to now be able to pull on him. He is pretty much done building his car, and mine is just getting started.

You guys think i'll have a chance once I get my 4.10's, headers, h-pipe, and upper/lower manifolds?

These are my current right now plans. I deffinatly have a lot more goals and aspirations, but I need to keep my mind set on current, and not get too far off into the distance.

I was just sad to chalk up my first race as a loss to a ricer.

they all have body kits and huge wings the real question is what color is the wing the body and the body kit because whenever you put a wing and a body kit on your car your not allowed to paint them.... to much drag and unpainted adds more hp

I don't get how if you have H/C/I gear and S/C a eclipse could even come close unless it was extremly modded to the hilt and that would take some deep pockets. I knew some guys with some really built eclipses, and they weren't basically modded they had as much if not more invested in thier cars as everyone else with domestic muscle. If you want one to really run, it's just like on our cars, everythign needs to be modded.

The factory turbocharger is quite small and and still has a lot of lag, along with the small factory intercooler and exaust. You can free up some pressure by getting better exaust and let more air in with a better induction, that way it will spool faster and then you can increase boost, but then you increase heat, so you then need a bigger intercooler, and those things arn't cheap. With a small turbo, your limited, and as you increase boost, but at a certian point, your heating the air more than boosting and backpressure increaces so your not making that much power, so you can get a bigger turbo, not it takes even longer to spool but once you get boost, wow does if fly, but then there is fuel. Bigger injectors, pumps, rails, this adds up. Of course, then tuning becomes more critical, and expensive. Go on any site or in any store that sells this stuff and start adding it up, it's expensive. Then the parts that were designed for 200hp and 150tq suddenly start snapping. OMG can they be quick, not only down the track but quick to empty your bank account. What I am trying to say is that if anyone thinks they are going to go out, put on a fart can and cai, and turn the regulator up to get more boost and think they are going to go out and play with the big boys has another thing comming.

Let me throw my two cents in...

You raced from 45-85, and he pulled 1.5 cars and was still pulling. And remember his car is all about the launch. My guess is he would wipe you up during a real race (from 0-100-110) so your going to need a good deal of mods.

Someone here also said an auto will be faster than a stick if both cars just have gear. Ummm... Id love to bet on that as I owned the same car with both and can say the auto (not stock) was slower than the stick and I had only driven the stick for a week! A built auto stands a chance, a stock AOD is one of the worst trannies out there for performance!

2000xp8Then you may need some stickier tires. That should make a world of difference for your car. [/QUOTE said:
If your going to go from a dig, thats the first thing i would do. I believe you were close from 45-85 since thats not really that long of a race. He would murder you out of the hole from a stand still though.

I hope you're talking about sti's and evo's and those kind of imports, not no civics and little econoboxes

I had a AWD Talon, same as eclipse. I had it modded, with all the goodies, ran 11.70's, But you had to work so hard all the time to run fast, I replaced the clutch at least 3 times a year, and usually a tranny, then axles break, and thats spring thru fall, It was fast from the line being AWD, but running top end it would fall off. It was fun, but I enjoyed driving my mustang more. And the mustang has the potential to always be faster than the DSM. Your going to need some mods before you line up from a stop with him again, and some traction.
