the whole removal of the console/dash/steering column wasnt as bad as everyone made it. so when i saw the heater core box, i thought i was in the clear.. until i tried to get the heater core out. it was near impossible. after jamming hammers/screwdrivers in everywhich way, i was able to pry the core out. i did the the "loosen the HVAC dryer nuts/remove the HVAC box bolts" in order to "drop" the HVAC assembly enough to remove the core. but for some reason, no matter how hard i pull, the HVAC case wont budge anymore. im doing this alone - so any advice to get the core BACK in without any (or minimal :/) damage would be awesome.

Heater cores suck!
I have to replace mine again.Did it back in 98`.

If yours is the original core and it was hard to get out after opening the heater case....Ford used a black coloured sealer on the lower part of the core at the factory. This is what is probably holding it down and making it hard to remove.

Just remove any of that remaining sealer and put in the new core.

i dremeled the top off of mine so it swings open cause I knew i'd prob replace it again w/in another 30-40k miles. if the top was cut like a swinging door it slides right out. to install make sure you place the foam on the bottom, slide core back in and RTV the top shut. to keep it from moving while drying place duct tape on top and reinstall.
