Yeah so I picked up a used 89LX last week. I get it in to get the rear gears put it and find out I need axles, side gears and everything! Not to mention the oil pressure drops after the engine gets warm so it's going to need crank bearings as well in the not so distant future. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Yeah I know, I paid 3500 for an 89LX. It's in good shape other then what I mentioned. I think it'll be around 1100 for parts and abot 600 for labour, :( but at least I'll know what I have when it's done. New axles, spider gears, crown and pinion, bearings and seals. I am going with 3.73 gears as I need a bit of hiway driveability.

Too bad you weren't a little closer, I could save you a few bucks in labour. I do have a rebuilt (with extra friction disc) 28 spline posi unit I could sell you for $150.00 though. Its in real good shape, and I only put about 1000kms on it since I re-built it. I moved up to a 31 spline unit this summer so its kind of useless to me now. Let me know if you're interested.

lol, this is going to turn into my own "now look what's wrong with my car" thread!! After having the rear completely rebuilt I still have a vibration from someplace. I get the tires balanced, still vibrates. I send in my driveshaft for balanceing, guess what.......nope.......my driveshaft is FUBAR. Yeah, so now I have to wait a week for my new aluminum FMS shaft. So aside from the weight loss what else, if any, benifits an aluminum driveshaft?
