why did i feel a miss and then my motor all of the sudden ran smooth, but burned oil?

Ok I got a thoery on this, since I see that you have this on your car. I had the same thing happen to my car. I had a miss it would come and go when it pleased. It was from My C&l 73 mass air meter, How I know this? I switch it with another meter a Pro-m meter and car ran 100 times better. Sometime does C&L don't work the way they should. It is a miss or hit with those meters. Yes I still have the C&L on my car but I use a IST mass air adjuster which give me "Large adjustment range with relative ease, you are able to adjust the mass air to the engine & injectors. This helps to eliminate engine surges & driveability problems. Digital display shows sensor volts."

This miss was not irratic, it was bad at first, got better, compression seemed to get better, and then boom, no more vibration, but loosing oil badly through #8, but still have the same compression as the other cylinders (around 120)
