So I went to start the mustang tonight to move it out of the garage. While turning over before starting I head a large squeal and then a small backfire through the carb possibly. Now when I try to start the car all it does is turn over, no attempt at firing or getting a spark. I checked all the plug wires, checked the belt. I have no idea what it could be. After repeated attempts to start the car I eventually flooded it, so I am waiting a bit before I try to start it again. Does anyone have any idea what this could be, I have never had a problem with this motor and its fairly new (4 years or so). Please help! :nonono:

you might have a bad timing chain set. it happens. you can tell quickly by removing the dist cap, and turn the engine in one direction, doesnt matter which direction, until the rotor starts to move. then turn the crank in the opposite direction again until the rotor starts to move. it should move with in a degree or two. if much more than that, then the chain and gears are shot.

I just went through a no start condition recently. First I noticed no spark out of the coil wire while cranking the motor, so changed the coil and everything was great for a week. The no start condition happened again and after cranking for a few times it caught, but I noticed my alternator was only putting out 13 volts where it usually put out 14 volts, so changed the regulator and alternator. It's been happy for over a week now.

I'd say, if it was running well prior to this, check the three culprits, air (which is free), gas and spark.
