I haven't a clue

Was doing head gaskets on a 1988 Lincoln 5.0 in my heap and seen this hole behind the passenger side head in my block was curious what it was for doesn't look like a operations port of any kind but does go into the at least 6 inch's maybe goes behind flywheel I hope ? Lifting point? Any help is appreciated

Was it threaded?
I do not know for sure
Possibly for a knock sensor or an older EEC III crank trigger
Can't imagine them still having the hole
Maybe for block line up or moving the block around on the machines to do the machining

It's threaded I'm thinking a lift point for assembly as well
