I'm running a short belt right now which is just alternator, waterpump, idler, and tensioner.

I'm thinking it could be the wrong width because the legnth seem good the tensioner is keeping the belt tight. When I first put it on the outside appears to start wearing very quickly then the ribs start coming off the belt and get caught behind the water pump pulley which drags it off the tensioner and the belt gets stuck behind it.

Anybody else have this problem at one time and if yah did what corrected it?

Well I finally fixed it sort of, I also running power steering now 80.2 in belt works great for deleting smog and a/c with stock pulleys.

Also got my timing set to 16 deg what a diiference.

I was under the impression that you have to buy that Pulley to replace the AC because the stock setup w/o smog and AC wouldnt go right.. but I guess I will try what you did with a 80.2in Belt!

Make sure the notch on the tensioner is between the 2 lines.

I had the same problem two weeks ago, so I put my A/C and Smog pumps back on and used a the stock length belt. How exactly did you fix it?

Maybe the belt wasn't lined up good on the pulleys? I have a 56" belt for just waterpump, crank, alternator and tensioner that works perfect except it squeals on startup. I ran it like that for a little bit and never even frayed the edges.

I did however shred my regular length belt (no smog) because I didn't get the power steering pulley on all the way and it wasn't lined up good.
