alright, my transmission leaks, its a 5 spd, and im not really sure where it is leaking from...i think it might be the input shaft because all the drips come from the front of the tranny. is there anything i can do to temporarily fix this. i know there is stop leak for manual transmissions....but is there anything like that for manuals. or am i just gonna have to deal with it until i can buy a new trans because i dont really want to rebuild this one as its the original and id rather have something better in the future. thanks for any help

GOt to pull it.

Generally speaking, it's usually only goingto leak in one of two places

-input shaft
-ouput shaft

IF your trans works good besides that, I would just yank the trans, and throw on a steel input shaft with a new seal. Much easier than doing everything.

Keep in mind, that this leak WILL soak your clutch with transmission fluid. This happened to me. It won't take long after that till your clutch slips so bad you won't be able to drive it.

crap...just what i wanted to hear. aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! well i guess i know what im doing next week, or should i say i know what my buddy jay is doing next week. haha. how much does a input shaft and new seal cost anyways? now that i think about it, thats probably why my clutch feels wierd sometimes and maybe why it sticks in gear. oh well...somethin else outta the way

They are pretty cheap, you can get a steel input shaft from hanlon for $30 or so, should come with the seal. Be sure to use the old shims from the old retainer onto the new retainer, also, order up a new throwout bearing while you are at it.

If your clutch isn't slipping now, you may be alright. dropping the tranny is simple, just remove the exhaust and driveshaft, etc. Goes a lot quicker than if you have to yank the whole bell and redo the clutch. This is a worthwhile fix if your tranny is otherwise good, and your clutch is still otherwise good. However, it is a bandaid to an old transmission. I soaked a clutch clean with fluid from a front seal leak.

sticks in gear??? maybe your clutch adjustment is bad. make sure your cable is tight enough. you don't want to yank the tranny, just to put it back in again if it's bad.

Hanlon will sell you a complete rebuild kit with a video for like $200 or less. IF you are halfway decent with cars, you can stick this video in, and rebuild your own t5 for a fraction of the cost. It can be done in a few hours from what I understand. (I'm about to embark on this very soon)
