Who would that be? My stang, before I began taking it apart, was only powered by a 340 hp, lightly modified engine. I would venture to say that it was one of the slower stangs, out of the local starbucks crew. Lightly modded ricers could never keep up when it was stock- I know, because I raced almost every kid in Beaverton by the time I finished high school. Though, you and I may have different definitions of what constitutes a "lightly modified civic or ricer." To me, lightly modified does not include an engine swap, stripped out interior, or a power adder- those are the modifications (not necessarily together), that it would take to beat, or "hammer" my car.

You may want to re-read my earlier comments. He does not work at tune-a-car. He used to. On a professional level, he seems to know his stuff; though he did take my mustang for a joy ride when it was at his shop for diagnostics five years ago. None of this changes the fact that his truck is hideous.

I actually thought that meeting in the said location was a clever idea- hence the post. I wouldn't mind BSing with them sometime. As far as Speed Concepts is concerned, I have heard some stories of real bone-headed maneuvers occuring in their shop. They told my friend that they would not guarantee their work on his integra because their technicians are not ASE certified. The ex-Tune-A-Car guy was hired because they, "needed a mechanic who knew what he was doing." That is enough to scare me away. I happen to like EVO VIII's and STI's. I don't own one because they are the new "bandwagon" cars that every mop-headed, bud smoking college and high school boy wants to own (no offense Dave). I too have friends who build and race import cars for a living. I see nothing wrong with that. However, if the technicians have no formal training, they don't touch any of my vehicles. End of story.
One thing I liked about the old Portland street-race gatherings was that there were both import and domestic cars present. It was far easier to mingle with people and there were less import/domestic stereotypes being perpetuated. It was not like starbucks is now, where there are the adults, with primarily stangs, and the high school kids on the other end of the parking lot with their imports.

I am kinda lost as to who the ego comment was about....:shrug: Sure hope it wasnt me as I have already "hung" out there and found them quite pleasant minus the fight I saw, and the 3 series BMW flippin brodies in front of the candy lights...

I just like meeting up, talking cars, and a little smack talk is always fun. I have both imports and dometics, both are fun. I miss the days when hundreds of cars would meet up at Old Spegetti Factory or cruisin Broadway. I dont know why it has died out like it has. Anyways, I think we (all car guys and gals) should meet up somewhere just for the fun of it. Everyone likes to show off what they got !! Whos down to meet up this coming weekend if it isn't raining???

Being the time of year it is, if we plan on going only when its not raining, then see later this Spring, Tim.

We should meet at Barnes & Noble in Vancouver Plaza, nice and warm with a lot of reading material, plus a Starbucks for those who like it. If it happens to stay dry, we'll chat outside.

This is all sounding good to me! I also own imports along with my Stang, unfortunately the Japanese one is just to get me to and from college with 40mpg! Now the car I bought for the wife, thats a different story, gotta love German engineering...

I would enjoy cruising down and checking out what they got. I dig the EWOK crowd. But we need to be respectful of their cars just as we would want the same to us:D

The police informed me that making more than 2 passes on Broadway constituted "cruising" and would be a ticketable offense (this was about five years ago). I think the anti-cruising thing was made a city ordinance. It pretty much killed the Broadway scene downtown on Friday and Saturday nights. That is also a good thing, as it was becoming a real cluster F&*$. If something bad happened, it was so congested that police had to respond on foot. I wonder, what would happen if we got a bunch of cars together and headed downtown ? Since Ed sold the cobra, there probably wouldn't be any trouble from the cops.:stick:

Absolutely! I also agree, and as I said when I was down there there was everything from Vipers and z06's to the average a hole (aka civic cause everyone has at least one) and they were all very into any car and or person that showed up. Lets do it...

Yep no Ed no cop problems for us anymore.
I am down with rolling around this weekend saturday so far forcast little or no rain at all. But of course it's too early to tell.

IN my mind these days your best bet is to hit lower river road saturday 1pm-5pm during the day. Lots of bikes doing stunts and stand up wheelies to 130 mph. Hell last time I got a video of a few bikes drag racing even some punk in a supra racing some bikes. Car scene is kinda weak but occasionally a few fast cars will arrive.

Later you head downtown portland, start early park near a normally hopping club. Hit the club early might not be many people in but grab food/drink and work all available women to get the testosterone up. Trust me if there's too many women in the club you won't want to go racing later on. So leave early.

From there cruize around downtown looking for victims for a bit on broadway and more specifically these days 3rd & 4th street. Then hit beaverton starbucks around 9pm for the mustang group & highschool pack. At times some of the younger guys will head to the starbucks off of 185th.


From there hit the 10pm-12am crowd at target/winco parking lot in vancouver. Across the street from vancouver mall Thruston exit off of SR-500.


That's the only scenes i know of these days. I miss the old days of,
*Home base parking lot by 122nd & halsey
*Airportway 174thish
*Dog tracks parking lot by delta park
*Under the bridge downtown across the street where they usually had circus setups + spaghetti factory area
*Some furniture store by GI Joes (delta park area) let alone GI Joe's was a spot
*T3 N portland
*Firestone 181st & i-84

I am sure i am forgetting some.

My lx ran 14.7 bone stock on el-cheapo street tires, stereo and all ... I dint know the new civic was that quick?

Heck that turbo Quailude I ran at pir (probably bone stock with only 6lbs or something) was only good for like a low 14 (he was in the rear view on a 13.7 pass).

Now of course a scoobie or an evo would be a different matter.... (i need BOOST!) :D

I work right down the road from the Krispy, (every friday too which sucks) when the weather starts to dry out I can go slide through the lott (ranger has stealth mode :D ) and check out the sceeeeeenneeee.

On what is possibly a related note, on clear F / S nights I do hear alott of fart pipes wound out going up 205 and down padden pkwy... that might be them.

Ya I would not want anyone at Speed Concept to touch my car especially if they would not stand behind their work. All of my friends that want to tune Honda's I send down to a good friend in L.A who is like the God of Honda tuning down there, as it's worth the $600 in shipping to have the car done right and noone knowing it was done and wanting to steal it.

I think a lot of the ricers are starting to fall away and more of the drifting scene is starting to take over. I was out at a local import shop which does very good work and most of all the cars they are doing now are RWD imports for drifting, and they are really taking after the suttle JDM look which is very nice.

I to miss the street racing days of a few years ago as I and a few of my friends actually drove imports that could keep up with and in some cases take down the domestics.....well the ones that were not trailored in on slicks. :D It was a lot of fun mixing and mingling and learning about each others cars....well until the cops came.

I work at Woodburn Dragstrip and import drag racing is quicly becoming a thing of the past here for the most part as the import days consist of about 25-30 mild to slow cars, and 10-15 fast ones, but at least it makes for a quick day.

We followed, and saw them turn in to the "new washington square" in Beaverton. We cased the area and later saw that they are hanging out in the parking garage of the mall. you should have asked the CRX to race you. The rest of them might be a challenge :)
