Fellas~

Ok, here's the question. I have a T-5 (still the original one) in my car and its really starting to worry me. The 'stang is my daily driver (my only car) so its well-being is not only a concern of mine, but its crucial. Also, my budget for repairs/mods is awful, so I have to be very cost-effective with what I do.

Ok, I'l stop rambling. Here's the question. I know for a fact my clutch is on its way out and was going to pick up a cheap one off Ebay (I believe its an Exedy-subsidiary's product) and have my mechanic friend install it. But I'm not so certain all the symptoms are clutch-related anymore. I'm hoping they are because it means I don't need tranny work, but knowing that is what you guys are better suiting for doing.

I can rev the engine in neutral and I only get a slight rattle around 2500-3000RPMs, I'm assuming its a heatshield. In gear however, if I open the throttle in any gear and any RPM more than halfway I hear two noises - the first sounds again like a heatshield rattle but a bit louder, and the other noise (which gets really really intense and loud at WOT) sounds like something is really loose or disconnected in the tranny and is bouncing around inside. I have no performance and acceleration differences save for the slipping clutch.

So, what are the odds that getting my clutch done will eliminate these noises and restore my performance? Or does it sound like I need tranny work? If so, what may be the cause?

Thanks a million in advance guys, you're the best.

the only way that you could pin point that would be to try to elimnate the other possibities. Go underneath your car and bang the hpipe with you hand or rubber mallet, see if you hear a rattle from the heat sheilds. If you get one find which one is loose and get some long triton gear clamps (same ones as you rad clamps but longer) and clamp it around the cat and heat sheilds. take the car for a ride and check the car to see if the the noise is gone. Heat sheilds can make the whole car sound like it's coming apart
