Don't kid yourself, that guy does not exist. He is actually a contractor with almost no benefits and is not even salary these days. Those days you are thinking of are over.

I work in IT I was talking about my personal experiences and those of people I know

IT is not the great field with super high pay that it once was. More and more companies are outsourcing IT to contract companies like CSC and EDS.

As for "you better not be talking about me" what are you going to do? Take away my birthday?

Ironically, you are the one that needs to know WTF you are talking about before you speak

I run criminal background checks for like 70 major companies. Work 12:30-9 which sucks but for an 18yr old it aint a bad gig at all.

This makes zero sense no matter who you are talking to.

Whatever job you have (or want) make sure it has a good retirement plan. I've been retired for 16 years after working for 32 years for a county government in MD. Between my pension and Social Security I make well over 55K/year to ride my motorcycle and polish the GT 'vert.
Most government jobs usually don't pay as well as the private sector but it's tough to beat the benefits and pension plans. Keep that in mind when you're job hunting. I know to you younger fellows retirement is a real long way off but it comes quicker than you can believe and , hopefully, can last a long time. And, it is FUN!

i take it that job doesn't require proper grammar huh?

i'm in the automotive business as well so no help here

interested to hear what's out there though. both my brother (hospital dietician) and my sister (not exactly sure what she does but it involves designing the booths at expos) love their current jobs and are well paid and while i do like my current job as a tech i'm very poorly paid so i might be looking for a new job soon as well

should've listened to the folks and stayed in school or followed in my dads footsteps and joined the border patrol, still not too late i guess
