OK. I've been looking all over the forums and I still haven't found a clear answer on weather or not tailpipes quiet the exhaust down. Emissions are coming and I need pipes to pass but I was thinking of just getting the tailpipes welded back on instead of clamped on. I have an O/R H and 2 chamber flows dumped and I love how loud it is. I don't care about how loud it is inside the car, only the outside. So will tailpipes quiet the exhaust down on the OUTSIDE of the car? Is welding the pipes back on worth it? I need an answer once and for all. Thanks everyone

Definetly quiets its down. The exhuast has further to go to exit so that means it losses some of its energy.

How would you pass emisions if you have an O/R pipe?

I'm gonna put the stock one back on. I actually heard from some that it doesn't make a difference. I just keep getting mixed responses. lol

Tail pipes will definately quieten the car down from outside mainly b/c your exhaust is not echoing off the ground back and fourth from the bottom of your car.

OT: Sorry.

Anyone know if bigger tips than stock (3.5") make the exhaust any louder?

OK, now that I know it makes the car quieter, does it make the exhaust sound better?

I think it sounds smoother which = better. The echo sound is not my favorite.

I also think bigger tips = louder also. Like p/u's you see with huge tips are usually pretty loud. My LS1 frined thinks that's impossible though.

It really depends on how strict they are. I'd take the safe route, and put stock back on then put the o/r on after the emisions testing.

dumps make the exhaust louder from what I've heard. Then again, do emissions testing score you on noise as well as carbon monoxide level?

actually I forgot a sound I love with dumps.

Having longtube headers, an o/r H pipe with two chamber flows, and dumps with a nice lopey cam =

Like Eleanor had in gone in 60 but it was a 351 Cleveland. Well that's what the one in the movie sounded like anyway. But it was a 351C, and the side exhaust was not functional.

:OT: sorry
