I need advice on car insurance

I do remember years ago, I did shop around. Most companies do not want to insure a performance car. Even with a good record, they treated me like I was rich or declined me right away. I had two cars insured with State Farm before the Mustang, and they substituted the Mustang witout a problem and even dropped my rates from what I was paying on an 81 Olds Cutlass!

Let me know if you get or can get this coverage!!! I tried to get this plan a little over a year ago so maybe things have changed. If you could give me the name of the plan I would greatly appreciate it and I will try again. Most people where I live have true classics 50's-70's cars and maybe my agent is inexperienced with this? Many people are unaware of the increased desireablity and recent restorability of our Foxes.

Once you are in the door of a good insurance company they usually treat you right. The problem for most of us performance drivers is getting in... "5.0 Mustang, ah... no thank you"... "Mustang GT, that will be $350 / month, and we will need your first born child as colateral, when will you be dropping him off?" I know this, I had to wait until I was over 25 years old to get my first Mustang.

I have American Collectors insurance. I am allowed to drive 3K per year, ( I do about 500) and I have agreed value. Try Americancollectors.com They also insure collections of other things, (coins, dolls etc). I have never had a problem w/ them and the rates are pretty good

Sorry, I just today got an email notification of updates to this thread!

I called my agent's office and they said she is out sick, so she will call me back later this week. I'll let you know what I find out.

I got it done at a local shop that only sold classic cars, hot rods and muscle cars. They had a real GT40 when I was in there. They took pictures, and gave a print out of the cars condition, options and modifications. I actually thought $50 was expensive at the time.

I finally got an update from my agent. She said that the Texas classic car policies are available for a 20 yr old car or older through State Farm. She said the Miss policy must only be available for cars 25 yrs old or older as I suspected. They have a different policy filed with the respective State Insurance Departments, and they have different requirements for each state.
