Your engine is basically a big air-pump. Anything that increases flow, theoretically, has the capability to increase your HP. Putting a larger, higher flowing, exhaust on your car will help getting that "air" (exhaust) out of the engine but if you can't get the air in you will really not see any improvement. Adding a CAI may help some, but your cams and heads are what's really determines how much air the engine can flow. Remember, there really is only one way, and one way only, to add HP and that is to add fuel. This is the premise a supercharger works under. Pushing more air into the engine allows you to add more fuel and still keep the correct air/fuel mixture. If all you do is the exhaust and a CAI, you'll need to get a programmer and do it yourself or take the car to a dyno and get it tuned. What gets you the extra few ponies there is to tune for the highest octane fuel available in your area and advance the timing as much as you can without causing detonation. It is estimated that you gain about 4HP/degree timing. BTW, for what it's worth, don't bother with a spacer...waste of money. Have one, had it on, took it off, makes no difference. A spacer that is a phenolic damper, or heat insulator, may possibly have some benefit by preventing heat soak into the intake plenum keeping intake temp. lower. Trust me, don't waste your money.
