Welcome to Stangnet dwilson8, and the wonderful world of car tuning! What have you done to the engine so far? and what year/model is it?

probably one of the easiest ways to gain considerable HP, is a larger exhaust sytem, and a header. (maybe from a ranger) The more you spend on an exhaust system,(in general) the more HP you stand to gain. A more agressive camshaft can net you some more HP, but it may degrade your low RPM performance, depending on the cam. Many people like to grab a Ranger roller cam and followers from the local junkyard. Then you got a very nice, low friction, mildly agressive street cam.

If you are a little low on funds, like myself, try some DIY mods. You can do away with the air cleaner box, and add a K&N (or similar) air filter for a couple easy HP. some people like to gut the air silencer, although it wont get ya much power. the better, but harder way, would be to build your own CAI (Cold Air Intake) from PVC Pipe, for example. Or, of corse, you could try to find something prefab, but i understand they can be hard to find.

Later on, you can look into porting the intake. You could also gut the upper intake, and knife edge the lower. This essentially gives you a shorter intake runner, adding to high end power. porting the head and adding bigger valves can get you some better performance all around. some tighter valve springs can raise your redline by 1k or so.

May sound a little overwhelming, but pick a couple easy things, and set aside a weekend and see what you can do to give yer ride a little more pep.

my stang is a 92 lx model. is it possible to make the stock single exhaust into a dual exhaust??? if so i work at an auto parts store just tell me what i need to make it happen i will make it happen. and about the header, i have been told that i couldnt get one for the stang but i thought that the ranger engine was the exact same engine as mine. if the header from a ranger will fit then i will get one asap.
thx dave

yes the ranger header will fit .. you'll have problems with the EGR ... most people just leave it unlpugged ... youve pretty much hit the nail though ... there isn't much that can be done to a 2.3 n/a without going turbo. youve already got the dual plug motor .. which made the most power out of any of the 2.3s in n/a form. oh and its already got the roller cam (correct me if i am wrong).

Yes, you can make it dual, but it won't be a TRUE dual, as the engine is an inline-style. Only one set of exhaust ports = only one exhaust manifold/header. You can get a pipe called a y-pipe which splits the single pipe into two so you can use 2 mufflers. The gain would be exactly the same as using a single performance exhaust anyway, so it's more for looks.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't the 91-93 2.3's have the ranger-style cam already in them? If not, then you can also put that in for a few more HP.

SVO y Pipe, cat back and 40 series Flowmasters. Easy route. If your talking Mustangs having the roller cam yes and that is one reason for the HP gain in them. I am suprised that no one asked him if he would consider a Turbo Swap yet.
