I need to get all teh air out of my power steering system...

Jack up the front end so both front wheels are off the ground (use jack stands and be safe and all that). Start it up and slowly turn the front wheels back and forth, nearly lock to lock (Dont hold it on the locks). Repeat as many times as you need to purge all air (I generally do it 10-30 times, depending upon what I've done and how much I'm screwing around).

Good luck Eric.

i would think if the pump doesn't work, and the fluid isn't moving, then the air isn't going to come up and out of the rez.

are your sure your rack and/or the cooler isn't the problem, and some how causing your pump to fail. it seems to me that after having 3 pumps stop working, you either have a horrible parts supplier, or something is cause the pump to fail. in this case it seems like the rack and/or the cooler are the causes since they are the only things connected to pump.

Only thing is I dont think the pumps are actually failing. Im pretty sure something is clogged in the high press lines on the rack. I blew out the low press lines through the cooler. And I can turn the pumps by hand. Its just when they get going fast they wont turn. Someone just told me it might be air in the system. But Im leaning more towards a clogged rack.

I wish I still had a nice rack... :(

You used to be called Erica? :p

I havent priced the HP line for our cars but for a fox, the line is only 20 bucks. I'd replace it if you have doubts. Maybe it kinked or got swollen and internally degraded. If that happened, the reservoir should have overflowed however.

Otherwise, something being wrong with the rack seems likely. I've never manually flushed a rack however.

And yeah, you have to bleed the thing with the pump connected (with the belt on). If you remove the belt and turn the wheel back and forth, the reservoir will overflow. Now if you want to try doing this, do it. If the rack has fluid and your reservoir does NOT overflow, the rack isnt sending fluid back to the pump.
