i posted this in tech but it isnt getting much feedback.

i have a chance to buy the engine and trans out of this car for a great deal. it has billet rods a cobra crank and forged pistons. the tranny is a viper spec T56
price for the engine from intake to oil pan is $1300.
heres the link to the thread with all the mods

the guy says he will guarentee everything. i plan on going thru the engine and putting all new rings bearings and seals. is the engine worth any $$ or would you stay away from it.

would the parts be usable? i'm not just gonna drop it in like it is. the trans is 2K for the whole kit. i'm pretty sure the tranny is ok but not too sure about the engine.

but what do you think about the internals? it doesnt lok like the fire was too bad. the car wasnt even completely burned, just the front clip. my main concern is the short block, which is $1000. i'm getting the heads, cams, LT headers and intake for only $300 more

i have the cash but just wanna make sure everything will be ok once i go thru it.

the only you will really get an answer is if you head down and see the motor in person and if it looks ok and the only damage was the valve cover then i say go for it too

The internals SHOULD be fine. The topend may be jacked though...its possable that the heads were damaged by the heat though. Intake is most likely jacked...again dependant on heat.

Drive up there and check it out

so should i even worry about paying the extra $300 for the heads and intake? i know i would have to swap out a lot of extra stuff to make it work on my car. how much power can i pick up with the 4v vs the 2v ported heads?

you can expect way better performance gains out a 4V than a 2V specially after some porting

oh well its just another $300 i could always sell them if i decide not to go with them.

just make sure they didnt warp or anything like that when you take them off and inspect them..... but if you do port them adding a nice set of cams will really wake up that motor

to check for warpage use a straightedge bar NOT a level and a feeler gauge. You have to somehow get the head upside down and lay the straightedge on it here is a little guide on how to:

INSPECT FOR WARPAGE

Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, check the cylinder head gasket surface for warpage utilizing the checking pattern shown in figure 4.35


Figure 4.34

Replace cylinder head if beyond specified limits (see SPECIFICATIONS).
1. Straightedge
2. Cylinder Head

IMPORTANT: REPLACE CYLINDER HEAD IF ANY ONE OF THE INSPECTION CRITERIA DOES NOT MEET SPECIFICATIONS. CYLINDER HEADS CANNOT BE RESURFACED, BECAUSE REMOVAL OF BOTTOM DECK MATERIAL WILL RESULT IN PISTON TO VALVE CONTACT.

^ this is not always the case you can resurface the head but dished pistons will have to be used to avoid P-T-V contact

so everyone thinks it is a good deal? i wont be able to go get it tonight. maybe tomorrow or the weekend if i'm off work. it is not an aluminum block so hopefully it didnt warp.

Let us know how it works out...for that price, it might be worth the gamble. Odds are, if the motor doesn't run right as a whole, there's at least that much in working parts left. Good luck scraping that bad boy clean though!
