i think i blew my tranny

well i just fixed my ignition problems and i was testing my car out and i hit about 110 in 4th and my car started to vibrate really really bad and when i shifted into 5th the gears ground. now when i drive there is a high pitched whining sound coming from what sounds to be somewhere under the bottom right side of the car. anyone have any idea what this could be? and what signs can i look for to tell if my tranny is gone? and how hard is it to rebuild one? cuz i kinda wanted to do it myself if its possible ( im not sure if this should be in talk or not, i thought it was kind of a tech question)

the vibration could be due to an unbalanced driveshaft or harmonic balancer or unalignmenet, but the whining is posisbly due to no insulation with the aftermarket shifter

so the whining doesnt necesarily mean something is broken?

my last 2 5.0's had a tri-ax in them, didn't whine with the stock shifter b/c of all the rubber insualtion absorbing the niose, since the aftermarket shifters dont have all that jazz, then you will hear the tranny whine

I wouldn't worry about it, unless it is EXTREMELY loud!!

its pretty loud, and its only when im driving, it almost sounds like a turbo spooling ( which is kind of strange ) im more worried about the vibration

Sounds more like cluster gear bearing or input bearing. Both are known to give trouble on T5 trans. Check my eBay store for help on resolving the problem.

also, if you have crappy u-joints, that could cause vibration problems. as long as your tranny shifts correctly and such the whine shouldn't affect drivability, although i would check the fluid levels.
