so I put my bbk long tubes on and i raced a 2004 mazda speed protege and i left off at 80 and was a good 3 or so cars ahead of him. So a few months later my car feel rather slow to me so i put in some 3.73's. Re race but have the h pipe on and lose about a car and half and that wasnt even a full 1/4. :notnice: My car also pops super bad at higher RPM and doesn't pull at all past 4k. So I figured why not go ahead and get some need heads. I'm thinking either of getting the afr 165's or the trickflows. I'm not sure which i want cause i've heard a lot of good things about both. I think while I'm at it i will be doing a cam swap. I was looking at the stick on the cam specs and i think i might go with a Crane 2030 but if anyone has some better ideas on combos that work well let me know

The AFR heads are the best heads out their right now. But personally i would get an FTI custom cam to go along with the AFRs. The AFR/FTI combo is real popular right now. But before you go any further modding your car, try and figure out what your problem is, the last thing you want to do i invest 2 grand into your car and have your motor blow or something go wrong.

Defintly make sure you know its your prblem before you dump 2 grand into it. I have done that too many times assuming its one thing and its a waste of money. AFR/FTI combo is a good one......me however I am a Trickflow man myself....Either one will do you right

i forgot to mention that i ran open headers for a week then got my flowmasters and h pipe put on ran that for a month sold the flowmasters ran headers and h pipe for 2 weeks then got magnaflows on. I'm getting my valves and compression checked this weekend and hitting the dyno next weekend. I should be able to get my timming done today.

Open headers on shorty headers is a big no-no. But if you damaged the valves your car wouldn't even be running. I know this sounds too simple...but what your describing (miss at 4K) sounds like a tune-up problem. When was the last time the car saw new plugs, new fuel filter and clean the mass air meter?

popping at 4000 and higer sounds like a vaccuum leak problem to me. either that or a new mass air without getting the injectors that go with it. are you getting any "lean" codes?

well I ran open long tubes not shorttys. When I got my LT's put on they would not put on my h pipe because it is an off road pipe and I do not have the tube that runs from the smog pump to pipe. Could this be hurting my performance also? I just put new plugs in a few weeks ago and about to replace thoes stock wires. As for running lean im not sure, everyone says it smells like its rich but i figured that was because of the off road pipe.
