I think I'm gonna buy a new short block. Need recommendations

I haven't got it pulled out yet, but I'm pretty sure all the bearings in my DSS 308 are wiped out. I was gonna rebuild it, but now I'm thinking about just buying another short block. I'm probably gonna stay with a 306 to keep costs down. I want to keep it around 450rwhp, but I don't think I can afford a Dart block. Most likely will have to be a girdled stock block. Should I get another DSS? I was also looking at CHP. Anyone else? Or I could have something built, by Rick perhaps.

have somthing built, and rick would be your man, he seen more 5.0's then you've taken craps. You cant buy that kind of history. email him and you'll see his prices are very reasonable.

and at least if there are any questions or problems you will know who to call

Yup, rick(Rick 91gt) does alot of business with guys on here as i can tell by the thread posted by em. I would contact him for sure

A girdle just keeps the block from falling in half when you split it. Useless. Ford offers a new block that is less money then the Rblock that will support around 800HP. You might want to look into this.

The new 05 Ford Racing Catalog lists a new 302 series engine block. This block is modeled after the 1969 Boss 302 block and features the following

I'd wait for the new block to come out also... Probably less cost than the Dart. At over 400HP you know that you are on borrowed time with any sort of stock block.

I think you guys are on crack. 450 rwhp is pushing it on a stock shortblock, but if the tune is safe, it'll hold together. It's pushing it, but it'll hold.

Don't wait for a ford block that hasn't even been priced yet. Buy another stock shortblock, or refresh yours for a few hundred and save yourself some money.

Yeah, I'm also curious about pricing on the new Ford block as well. The 5 month wait is kind of a bummer too. Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm in no big hurry, as money is a limiting factor right now. I just got done dropping about $2800 for my TKO swap, now this happens.

As far as the FORD block it seems like it will be a interesting piece,. It really depends when it is finally released and what the price will be. Reported pricing is in the $1300-$1500 range. From what I have heard no one has seen one yet..... Seems like it will be similar to the DART Sportsman, which is a very nice piece.

Hey, Rick, I got your email, thanks for the fast response. I'm gonna get my old engine out and torn down and see how bad it is and go from there. Any idea why the bearings would be worn out after only 40K? I'm at a loss here

I would strongly recommend either waiting for the Boss or getting another aftermarket block that is already out. The stock block would be on borrowed time with your combo and the Sportsman block would not be much better. One bad injector or lean out could blow a stock block apart with that kind of power and a blower.
