I think im tired of my car smelling so bad.....how can I fix this?

Maybe im getting old....maybe im getting lame....BUT im getting tired of the oldness of my car and its something I need to fix. We were behind a 94/95 mustang today in my girlfriends car and I complained about how bad it smelled. Then everyone in our car said my car smells worse. I do not have the EGR, Smog or Cats on my car. I need to fix this smell problem and stop killing brain cells. Is my car just not running right anymore? I havent had cats on my car for like 3 years now and it hasnt really bothered me until lately. What can I do to fix the smell problem? Put my stock exhaust minus cat back on? Could it be just super rich? How do your cars smell?

without cats, the exhaust smells bad. my fairlane smells bad too. i may even put cats on it just to improve the smell

Dumps and leaks are stinky. EDIT: When I typed that the first time, it didnt sound so funny. I like the gutter-meaning better.

I do agree that non-catted cars can be a little rancid. Colder weather seems to enhance our noticing the smell too (even in our mild climates - I dont really notice stink when it's 90-110* outside)............

If you havent, pull codes just to see if anything soft is stored. Is your tune on the fat side?

some high flow cats will fix the problem... check for exhaust leaks first

Check for exaust leaks. My 5.0 smelled worse than the 6.8 for some reason. There was such a difference in power with the cats off that .. well you know. I do not smell it on the inside tho..I bet yu have a hole or leak man!

Maybe running hotter spark plugs if your running N/A with a after market ignition system to help give a more complete burn

I would just swap out a set of hotter plugs and see if it helps any. It's the cheapest first step.
