Good afternoon:
I have a 66 coupe with a standard 289. I recently put in a new starter, battery, various wires, Edelbrock performa RPM Intake manifold, Holley 4B carb, radiator, hoses, distributor components, and transmission cooling lines. Now it won't start!

I figured it was the timing, and got it to just about start up, but it won't do it. I am wondering if anyone had any thoughts. I am considering an electronic ignition, because i wonder if the stock distributor is just too weak.

Any ideas?

My first guesse is the timing 180 off. [ done that a few times]. Plug wires not in correct place, point gap and dwell not set right. Electronic ignition will save you loads of time on tune ups. You don't need it to get your car to start.

+1.

The Pertronix ignition is stupid simple to set up and at $75, not expensive. Will give a hotter spark too, so more power and better mileage. But... its still gotta start...

Pull the spark plug leads off, yank the distributor out, then start from the beginning. You need fuel, air and spark - at the right time.

Did you remove the distributor at some point and do you know the procedure for re-installing it?

What does "distributor components" mean? Distributors don't get weak. They don't create, they distribute.

Did you pull the dizzy or no?

Lets not forget a good engine ground.

Use two..............one off the back of the intake and one off the front of the engine.
