I want to clear this King ? up

I was Told if the cobra ii had front and rear stabalizer bars it was a KING, was i mislead? i was also told if the spoiler holes was factory it was a king?
who has a cobra ii that is not a King that has stabalizer bars?

also, Did all kings have Wheel spoiler, im not sure thats the proper name but you get the ideal.

Could you guys Help Clear this up?

As far as I'm aware, the ONLY way to tell a factory-built King Cobra is by checking the codes on the buck tag and cross-checking the VIN...

No, none of that is true. The rear sway bar was optional on some cars, and standard on cars with the handling packages. The same for the rear spoiler. All Cobras had the rear spoiler, and you could order it as an option on other models.

The King only got the big 3 piece front spoiler, and the fender flares in front of the rear wheels.

The only way to ID a King, is to look at the buck tag on the radiator support and make sure it has "KC" stamped in it.

All 1978 Cobra IIs and King Cobras came with the rear sway bar, because the Handling Package was standard with both. The rear spoiler also was factory installed on both, but I have to disagree with Sal; the rear spoiler was not an option for non-Cobra or KC hatchback cars. The Cobra II style front spoiler was an option for any hatchback, but the rear isn't on any list or in the brochures. I've seen it installed on one or two Mach 1 cars, but as an add-on.

you could order pretty much anything for the II that was made for the II through
the dealer not the factory. and the dealer would install it for a set price.
one of my good buddys who i work with now spent 40 yrs at a ford dealer and can remember installing plastics for the II, they would get a sticky template
with pre punched holes to know where to drill.
they were also installing what he called a (snow plow) the front air dam for the cobraII on standard cars..
i SAID snowplow!? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? he could not remember the name air dam or chin spoiler, he said that was the name they called it for yrs. lol
so he goes home for lunch one day and comes back with a cobra II chin spoiler in the box new from the 70"s
he gave it to me about 5 yrs ago FREE. i already had a good one so i sold it on e-bay for $240.00.. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT....
everytime he sees my car he says how do you like that snow plow?
i say OH YA it worked out great. lol.

unfortunately the vin does not tell whether it was a cobraII or a king cobra.
the only way to confirm is the buck tag on the radiator support.
or a build sheet left under the carpet from the 70"s..

OK I have a question about optioned cars. I talked to a guy at Carlisle this year who has a II for sale. He claims it is a cobra II, BUT it has no decals, no rear spoiler and no front air dam. This guy said his mother ordered the car, wanted a CB II but didn't like the spoilers or decals. He also claims it's a Canadian car, I have a picture of it on my fridge, he's from Virginia. was this possible in 77??

That doesn't make any sense. A Cobra is just a spoiler and graphics package. If she didn't want spoilers or graphics, there would be no reason she'd want a Cobra.

Only reason I mentioned the VIN is because the bucktag has the VIN on it, to confirm that the bucktag actually belongs on the car.

Oh, and that reminds me...I haven't attempted to find the build sheets for either the Cobra or the coupe...and both appear to have un-molested interiors

ok, Thank all of you, i am so happy with all this info! i will go and check my buck tag and post what i have, i know its painted over so i hope they stamped it.

Now, something to think about. The wheel spoiler as i call it, the pop ribbits on mine was factory. so could something as little as a pop ribbit on the rear wheel well tell you its a King? these cars are hard to identify lol.

Congrats! It's a good feeling to know it's the real thing. The other thing you can do is get a Marti Report on your car. My King is missing the buck tag, so I wasn't sure it was legit until I got my report. It lists all of the options that came on your car from the factory, as well as the selling dealer, how long it sat on the lot, and a lot of other cool info.
