Because I only have an iPhone, the Internet is miserably slow, and phone calls cost a dollar a minute.

Don't cheat. Guess where this is, and you'll know where I am
(Was).

Since I was gonna have to wait a couple of weeks for the head gasket dilemma to resolve itself, I figured what the hell,.... I'd just throw a couple of things in a bag, grab the wife, and have my pilot fire up the Lear for a quick two weeks in........

Where am I?

not quite. Bilbao Spain gets the cookie. That, followed by Madrid, and currently Seville, followed by Milaga, and finished by Barcelona is how you reward your wife for putting up with a car guy for 30 years.

In reality, this trip has been planned ( and saved for ) for 5 years. The Gila Monster Just happened to land in the middle of the plan.

I like Spain. Was stationed at Torrejon AB right outside Madrid for my first assignment.

Mad Mike in Europe? I don't think they are ready for that over there...

Imagine what the place will be like when he leaves..

Have you learned enough Spanish to keep the waiter from making funny faces when you order dinner in Spanish?

No, my only regret so far. I had airfare purchased 6 months ago, and told myself that I had plenty of time to learn.
Fortunately, in a really weird twist, a lot of the menus are printed in English as well as espanol.

Good thing, because if I had to order from a menu expressly in Spanish, I'd be ordering some disgusting fish dish and not know it till it got there.

No Bueno.

And FYI the picture is of the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao. Completely covered in titanium plate, the whole building is a freakin testament to pushing the boundaries with metal and glass.

Wasn't all the thrilled w/ what was inside it, but the building is cool as hell.

Cool! It has been a long time since I have been to Spain. I tell ya, being in a different location give you a certain peace and difference outlook on life. Thumbs up to you bud. Just don't come back with anything like this.

It'd be kinda hard to put a DOHC 4.6 2V in this thing! Hurry up back, I'm waiting on updates to the monster

What's been the favorite cuisine item so far? Real Spanish cooking is probably very different from the Tex-Mex most of us are familiar with.

You are so right. The lifestyle here takes some getting used to, but once you're on the same page as everyone else, it's "normal" for here.

Here, breakfast is normal hours ( for a hotel) typically between 8-10 AM.

But lunch is around 2, and dinner starts @ 8PM.
There have now been several evenings that I'm sitting in a restaurant at 11:00 just having desert.

As far as a favorite, that has been a pork tenderloin, similar to BBQ, but spiced differently.
Ironically, I was talking w/ the wife about that last night MOF.

While it's all been good here food wise, our unanimous favorite food is the steak you get from a restaurant in Florence Alabama USA.

Hope you're having a great time. Spain is awesome as is most of Europe. You planning on any beach time in Barcelona? If so, I would recommend taking a train (or your rental car if you're driving) down to Sitges. Nice beach and a nice-looking old town with some good restaurants.

Thanks, we are in fact having a very good time.

We happened by chance to decide to go to Malaga after Seville.

While the old Santa Cruz barrio was cool, Seville is filthy. I lived here as a kid when my dad was in the AF. It was real bad back then, and it's only moderately better now.

But,.......

Malaga is beautiful. A resort town w/ the Mediterranean on one end, the Sierra Nevada mtn. range behind, and streets paved in marble in between.

We went to the ocean this morning, and while I prefer the gulf coast to this beach ( and I hate the damn ocean anyways) this beach has one thing Ft. Walton doesn't have.

Topless women.

Now with the good, comes the bad in that regard, because there are not just hot 20 something's w/o their bikini tops on laying around.

There are also 40-50-60-70 something's doing the same thing.

Very true. They make a distinction in Europe between topless and nude beaches. We had a similar experience in Sitges. There was a fairly hot topless girl from the UK near us. Other than her, it was all women who were likely 70+. I didn't know tits could hang that far down.

^^Gravity is a motherf*kr!!

I grew up around Blacks Beach near La Jolla Shores in San Diego. It was a famous nude beach back in the day and the first time I went there to surf was the last. Bunch of seniors sagging and Jarheads from Camp Pendelton go there because they imagine the rumors are true, a bunch of hot young girls running around without anything on. Total joke.

Blacks beach is also known for it's incredible surf especially during big ground swells which a lot of surfers had to endure the good surf with the horrible view on the beach. I'm glad they banned the nudists.
