As most of you know, I drive around with my IAC unplugged because of surging idle when plugged in. Well, I finally got around to putting a new one in from advance auto and no dice. As soon as I plugged it in, it idled right back up to 3000 rpms. Its crazy and its making me CRAZY. Any help appreciated as always. Happy mothers day to all those out there who have little future stang bangers.

How do you check that. I have a voltmeter, but where do you probe?

If you unplug the IAC and the engine remains running, i believe that means you have a vacuum leak... Might wanna look into that..

You could have a vac leak but also you can unplug the iac and the car will run if the throttle plate was open a bit.. just that it will be at a slightly higher rpm at idle

and with no IAC, there will be no accomodations for load (a/c, etc).

after hookin it back up, you might want to disconnect the battery, turn on the headlights, and then re-hook and run it. it might need to relearn some stuff (some computers like this, and some incorrigible ones dont care). worth a try, i think.
good luck.

I'm at my wits end with this deal. I've tried everything and nothing works. Am I losing out by leaving my IAC unplugged because I can't find anything wrong.

Do you have a vacuum gage? What is your vacuum pressure?

Does it hurt to run without it?

I don't know that it would hurt to run without, but you are definatly not benifiting from it being off. Check your vacuum and see what it is at, I had similar to the same prob, it's amazing how much a small vacuum leak can screw things up. Run your codes, mine gave a thermactor code all the time, the line leading to it were all broken up but patched.
