Engine idle problem

i have an 88 gt. done the mass air swap. It also has afr heads 30 lb injectors edl intake b cam 70 mm throttle body and msd. it idles up and down and sometimes dies. How do i fix the problem?

the light hasnt came on.

Try searching how to dump the codes and post if you have any. Also may try to search resetting the idle. This topic has been brought up over and over and over

I have heard of the CEL not coming on for codes.
I have also heard of bad CEL lights that did not work at all.

check the codes, not all of them trigger the cel!

do a search for the surging idle checklist. It along with your codes will fix your problem

See the "Surging Idle Checklist” for help with all your idle/stall problems. You can guess at the problem and throw parts at it, or you can use the checklist to help you find the problem quickly and inexpensively. The checklist is right here in the Stangnet 5.0 Tech forum and you don’t have navigate to some other unknown web site. It‘s free and doesn’t cost anything: at last count there were more than 103,000 visits and still climbing

The quick and easy way to dump the codes is in there too, and all you need to do it is a paper clip! The first two posts contain all the fixes & updates. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

There's seriously no telling how many cars are running good today because of the Surging Idle Checklist.

eh if I am not mistaken didn't 87-88 not have a CEL ? I may be wrong so don't start shooting at me yet

Unless it was a California car to begin with in 87-88 the light was not connected until 89 when we got mass air across the board and that is out of the thread from here
