Idle Speed, Drivetrain shunt.

Hi guys,

I just bough a 2002 GT and have been having it fun with it, but I have a question regarding idle speed. It is the only GT I have driven, so I don't know if they are all like this or just mine.

1. When coming to a stop, say in second gear, and dipped the clutch before coming to a complete stop, the RPM's will remain at about 1000 for 2 seconds after I have come to a complete stop and then drop back to 750'ish. Is this normal?

2. Rolling along in first gear, there is noticeable driveline shunt when trying to accelerate.

3. Between gear changes it takes ages for the RPM's to die down.

4. Even when in gear at speed and you take your foot off the throttle, after a couple of seconds, you can feel the car slow down more.

It seems to me like the engine is being over fueled. As far as I know the car is completely stock apart from an aftermarket X pipe.

If they all do this, then I won't worry about it, but otherwise is there something I should be looking for?

Thanks,

Mine does basically the same thing, especially the part about it taking a second or two for the speed to come down after I let off the gas,I just look at it as a way to save a little gas LOL...I hope.So yea I would say that it is normal...also does your car seem to run better sometimes than others?I shot it off sometimes while driving and turn it back on, sometimes it helps (especially in my dads 00 V6) I think, but its more noticable when you drive it on different days, probably the air temp. but sometimes it seems to loos power or be rougher when I have the A/C on then turn it off for a little fun, but seems slower still. And when the a/c on it feels almost as fast as the V6 LOL, it must take alot out of it.Also i wonder if it is better to run it on MAX a/c or regular, the CD I got with the car said that the MAX A/C was more efficient...but who knows.

1 - normal

2 - normal drivetrain slack

3 - normal

4 - the car should slow down when you let off the throttle

the 4.6 does run a little rich from the factory...just like most vehicles :nice:

That's good to know. I thought it might be normal.

Is there a way to improve the running of the car? Would using a chip make it run less rich?

Yeah, get some 4.10's, aftermarket shifter, and a sport chip. That should take care of most of the problems you're having. :D
