if you had a stock 302 engine, and $2,000 to mod it. but you had to pay someone for the install cause you just can't do it. what would you buy? why? and what gains would you beable to get in the end??

That's a hard one to answer because shop rates vary all over the country.

Go to bone yard find an explorer pull the heads, intake, TB, etc. pick up a tfs1 cam maybe classifieds, craigslist or spring for new + assorted gaskets, etc. shop around for install. maybe 260-270ish rwhp range. you might just make it, the damn labor is going to hold you back but you might make it. them are decent gains in my book over stock.

i bet someone is gonna take half your money to install the stuff.

do you know anyone with a garage? you could gain 50 rwhp with better parts for the dollar if you did the work yourself i bet.

Honestly, i think youve got the wrong car if you cant do the work yourself. I mean, if youve got a buddy with a shop, and he could help you out, thatd be one thing. But to bring go-fast stuff into a shop to have them install a new H/C/I/E or something would cost a fortune.

If it were me - since im mechanically inclined - I'd go buy $1000 of tools and an explorer engine. Use whatevers left for the gaskets, oil filter + oil, and other BS. LEARN TO DO IT YOURSELF

If youre not mechanically inclined - sell it and get a 4.6???

It's not that he doesn't know how to do it, but is not allowed in the neighborhood he lives in to be able to work on his car. It sucks, it really isn't his fault that he can't work on his car. I have spanked every 4.6 I have gone against in my notch so I would say no to the 4.6.

Look for local gearheads who do work on the side and try to get yourself a better deal. Also look for locals selling used parts/builds, who knows maybe you can find a used 300rwhp engine for sale cheap enough and someone willing to put it in for a 300-500.

Whatever you do, my best advice is: bide your time if you have to stretch your dollar immensely. If you can spare more cash or can find a place to use for doing your own installs, then you can hurry up on the project a bit more.
