Well a DSS long block 347 w/ AFR 185's and an E-303 is on its way. If you had to choose between a polished Cobra lower and upper or a TrickFlow Street intake setup, which way would you go. I know this is a form v. function dilemma, but how much function will I sacrifice for the shiny stockish look of the Cobra? Or is the thing already going to be choked to the point that it doesn't matter by the cam selection? The DSS guy was less than thrilled by my cam selection, but this thing is going to be a no track time N.A., D.D. I guess if you guys think TrickFlow, I can try to powder coat the old motor's valve covers to match that silver that they use on the upper. Man, I hate the way they embossed that thing Also, do you think I'll make 300 to the rear wheels w/ this thing?

Should make 300 to the wheels easy with a cobra or a trick flow. Id say go with the trick flow intake, it will work much better with the set up.

The new Cobra manifolds are smoking piles of monkey poo. View attachment 337462 I know. I own one and already have a GT-40 to replace it with.

Honestly, this is the best choice for your combo if you want max power. Since you say it is a street only na car tfs is the better choice. The better choice you don't have listed is the gt-40.

Yup, best choice for this n/a street car. But since the combo is mismatched severely with 302 parts, use which ever intake you already have in your possession.

OK....Systemax it is. So is it the cam where I'm going wrong? Still might be able to change that!

Mismatching is all up to opinion.

The 347 is great. The AFR 185's are great. The potential intake purchase of a Systemax/RPM II is great.

There is NOT ONE intake best for any set-up.

That just leaves the camshaft as far as opinion goes.

I strongly suggest Ed Curtis @ www.flowtechinduction.com. He sells the AFR heads you have and can recommend a great valve spring package for you to match the camshaft.

You could make 300 rwhp with that combination as is, but much more with a camshaft and good intake.

Another mistake avoided...Thanks!

Thank you. I will definitely purchase the Holley set up as recommended, and I will look into the AFR tech web site for more info. so what size MAF and throttle body does Systemax like?

80mm maf, 75mm tb. Ed curtis @ FTI will set you up with a good camshaft along with valve springs. This will be much better than the e cam/cobra intake stuff. 400rwhp can be done depending what you ask for. Much better than the mismatched 300hp combo you were thinking of.

70mm throttle body will flow plenty.

80mm MAF sounds great if you get a good brand. Pro-M is a good one.

400 rwhp!?

Holy crap! How's this going to work with DSS doing the assembly though? Guess I'll call to see if it'll fly on Mon. Any suggestions as to how to approach them with this possible change order? Is there a diff. between Systemax and Systemax II? Jegs advertises it one way and 5.0 Resto lists it as the other.

There used to be an old Holley Systemax I intake if I recall.

We are referring to the Systemax II intake.

Got any links to the ones you are referring too?

D.S.S. should be fine as long as they have not actually ordered anything

Personally what I would do if you are set on the engine from DSS is just get their shortblock.

Then, when you can get in contact with Ed Curtis and he can get you the rest of the top-end parts. The AFR 185s, Systemax II, Custom camshaft, roller rockers, pushrods, gaskets, etc.

This would mean you need to find someone to assemble the top-end or find someone you know to do it.

The bottomend needs to be done by a professional, but the top-end can be done with a do-it-yourself method.

Have fun with the build

And yes, 400 rwhp is possible if you ask for it from the cam grinder.

This may take a little driveability out which may cause lower engine vacuum and some low-rpm bucking if not tuned.
