If you have 4:10s i have ????

Im considering getting 4:10s on my car later this year but i want to do some research first. I have been reading the posts about having these gears installed and just about everyone is happy, but i have some conserns.

1. I do ALOT of highway driving, will i still be able to curise at 80mpg without a problem?

2. Does this gear swap put strain on my engine?

3. Will i lose top end speed on my stang? I like the fact that i will be able to accelerate fast but also dont want to give up high end speed

4. Is it really worth the $400.00?

5. What brand should i purchase, i figure Ford Racing should be pretty good right?

Yes you will be fine, you will be cruising at a higher RPM but it isnt that bad

Actually just the opposite, it is now easier for the engine to turn the rear wheels.

Yes and no. You will technically drop your potential top speed, BUT because the gears make it easier for the engine to put the power to the ground, you will actually be able to go faster. I am having a hard time explaining this one, i hope somebody else will ellaborate

4. Is it really worth the $400.00?
I am assuming you are talking about $200 for gears and $200 for install, sooo YES

5. What brand should i purchase, i figure Ford Racing should be pretty good right?
Yes, go with the Ford Racing

I only paid $139 for my new frpp 4.10's at gene evans ford. I think the web site is gefracing.com you may however need to buy a installation kit kit is around $80 I think. $200 for the labor is good if the guy knows what he is doing. Make sure the installer has experence changing out rear ends.

dont forget a speedo calibrator, dallas mustang offers one.

OR he could save up a few more bills and get a dyno tune. While he is there he can get his timing upped, speedo fixed, shift points changed (didnt look to see if he had an auto or not), fuel pressure adjusted, etc.

It would save him from buying the Timing adjuster and speedo calibrator.

Im waiting to get the dyno tune until i get some seroius mods on the car. that way i dont have to get it done more than 1 or 2 times depending on mods..

Don't fear the gear man.

I had mine installed last weekend and they are a good mod. The 4.10s make driving the car a lot more fun for sure.

I run around 70-75 in my AUTO and the RPMs are not terrible.

Ford Racing are good gears!

what kind of 1/4 mile time improvement is expected when going from 3.27's to 4.10's?

4:10's are fine for highway driving, i run at like 2500-2600 at 80 mph. which is fine. they also make the car a blast to drive around town

I will admit when I first started on this board I feared the gear. I thought 3:73's were the only way to go. I was about to put them in my 02 GT then I read what everyone else was saying about 4:10's. Now I have the Mach and the only gear I will put in the car is going to be 4:30's. Some people might think it is to tall of a gear, but everyone I talked to said the 4V really wakes up with 4:30's. I think the 2V will do better with 4:10's due to the power band being a little diff. Don't fear the gear grasshopper....get the 4:10's.

The only down fall of 4.10's are:

Racing from a roll w/ high hp cars.
If you have an auto this doesn't concern you.

Those w/ 5spds. stock 3.27 alow you to pull 4th up to 140 witch is key from a 40/50/60+ roll.
4.10's you can only pull around 115 in 4th then you have to bog it out in 5th.

But most people don't race over 100mph to much so your golden.

So I say just your 100+ top end pull is lost on 5spds. Unless you opt. for 6 spd.

If you do a lot of highway driving, then I wouldn't get the 4.10's. I find it annoying holding the engine at 3000 rpms at 80 mph for an hour straight on a highway trip.

Now I have forced myself to drive around 70-72 mph on the highway because I hate the high revs of anything faster. On the other hand, it's probably safer and I am now less likely to incur a speeding ticket.

Around town, 4.10's are awesome. It feels like I added 50 hp to my car. By far the most noticable mod. I have done to date. Nitto DR's are my second favorite mod. If you want to really take advantage of the 4.10's, I highly suggest some sticky tires. Spinning 1st and 2nd gear gets old real quick.

80mph you'll be right around 3000 rpm or more.

My 4.10 gears showed up today. They're pro 5.0 brand and look like a pretty heavy duty piece. I would've gone with ford racing, but for the price i got, I couldnt resist. Brand new 4.10's for 100 SHIPPED. Pro 5.0's got in partsshopper for over 150 plus shipping.

I cant wait to get them installed. I'm going to wait and hook up my zex kit before I put the gears in, so I make sure I want them. I dont wanna be killing myself with the tires spinning like a mofo

Realize id you have a t-3650 it has a .62 OD gear
My t-45 is .68 so the rpms will be Lower on the 01+ cars than this.
