Got my stalker front bumper today WOOT. Now comes the task of getting it painted. The body shop that I checked into wanted $400-$450 to paint it b/c of the process that needs to be done to get the mold release contaminents out of it before it can be painted. Ive been to that shop before and I really like there work but I know of someone else who is really good and a friend and he prob wont charge as much. What I really want to know is has anyone here preped the bumper themselves to get the mold release agents out of it by following the steps on the back on the instructions? Was it hard? Im thinking that If I can prep it myself then it wont be as much to paint it but if its not easy to do then I dont want it to be half ass done and then have the paint peel off the bumper. How much did it cost to paint for those of you who do have urathane bumpers?

Im happy w/ the quailty of the bumper, first product I have ever bought from cervini's but the prep process before the paint is either going to suck or cost me alot to have a body shop do it. Advise? thoughts? oppinions?

From NJ to Maine using ABF Fright it came to 99.02 for shipping and $399 for the bumper + what the cost of paint is going to be and its going to be one hell of an expensive bumper. Cops can go F'them selves, no way Im drilling holes in the front of this thing to put a plate on it.

Yes in Maine we are required to have a rear and front plate. I got bagged for not having one on there years ago, it was a $70 ticket With as little as I will be driving the car this yr (weekends/carshows) Im not going to worry about it. If I do get pulled over for it I'll tell the cop just how it is, and that I have a ton of money sunk into this front bumper and I AM NOT drilling holes in it to put a plate on it so go ahead and write me the ticket.

I have a Cervini hood & the only thing I did was sit the hood outside for a week to let it cure some more. The painter didn't do any thing other than sand the hood before primer. That should get rid of the mold release?

I bought a grill insert from them 6 or 7 years ago and the tard at macco didn't do any prep, just sprayed it and charges me $30. That was my old car and it was totaled. A friend of mine went and pulled the grill off and put it on his car. Still looks as good as the day i put it on

only thing i ever got from cervin when i had my last 95 gt was a 3in cowl hood.
But i like the staker kit, its pretty tasteful for a kit. Ill probly stick with oem bumpers though nad just get another hood when i get me another 94-95.

If you do prep it yourself then the shop is probally not going to gurantee any of there work., so in the long run it would be petter if they did it.IMO

To get the mold release agents out the shop would have to bake it in the booth for about 1/2 hour. The wash with warm soapy water and scuff it with a scotch brite pad and some blend prep. wash and clean again in warm soapy water and degrease. and its ready for sealer and base and then clear coat.

There not going to gurantee any of it anyway. They cant guarantee there paint work on aftermarket body parts since its not OEM. Either way I dont get a warrenty so might as well try it myself and cut the cost on the paint process down.
