IGNITION REMOVAL

Hi Guys (Newbie Back Again, Again & Again )

Sending my '66 Convertilble to be sandblasted.

I removed most of the wiring EXCEPT THE IGNITIION KEY, LIGHT SWITCH ALSO.

I'm having one heck of a time trying, trying and trying somemore to remove 'em.

I read somewhere (don't ask me I'm ol' . . . lol)

I'm to put the key in the ignition, turn the key to accessory, stick a paper clip into
the little hole that's at the bottom of the key hole.

Push the paper clip in to unlock it and then turn the key counter-clock wise and with the key still in PULL THE IGNITION OUT.

Yeah Right! Its doesn't come out darn it

NOW WHAT GUYS

HELP PLEASE.

I have the gauges out is I can see part of the ignition switch. What am I doing wrong ?

Any and all info to get me out of this fix will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks Guys
GOD BLESS

I think thats correct, use a small straight paperclip as to large a clip will not work.
I do think that when you turn the key to accessory then put the paper clip in and you will feel a spring load against the clip pushing the clip back out, then turn the key to the left just a little past accessory then pull the clip out so the key will turn farther and pull the key center out, then grabe the back side of switch and with other hand hold the outer chrome ring and push in and turn ccw the inner back side to remove.
The headlight switch is removed by pulling the knob out to running light position the on the inner side of switch push in the little button on the top of switch then pull the knob and shaft out. then with a large blade screw driver unscrew the outer center and remove switch.

I'm Trying Bob But . . .

Hey Bob

Thanks 4 your imput.

I trIed and tried what you suggested and low and behold NO GOOD.

On the 1966 model there's a threaded bezel with the ON/OFF/ACCESS. printed all around it. I un-screwed it to a loosen position and not much more happened.

A friend of mine say to keep on counter wising it till the bezel comes off. I personally don't see that happening but I'm try tomorrow.

Thank Again Bob

If your bezel is threaded on a 66, then someone put a later model ign switch in the car. It should be a push an twist to release. Did you get the lock cylinder out? THat has to come out first. You should not have to push very hard with the paperclip. And like Tom B said, hold some lite pressure on the key after the pin goes in, pull the clip out slowly and the lock cylinder should go left a little farther, then pull it straight out. You will not get the bezel off till the lock cylinder is removed without damage.
THe headlight switch can be a pain. You need to press that spring loaded button on the side of the switch pretty hard. SOmetimes the headl ight stem will just pop right out, other times it will be a battle royale. DOn't pull hard on the stem, once you find the right spot, it will release. You may have to jiggle it around quite a bit. I have found that if the stem is even slightly bent, it will be very difficult to remove. Lets hope you'res comes right out.
