Ok so I'm installing my Painless harness in my '66 and the ignition switch has 4 wires going to it which I have hooked up properly but I noticed on the switch there is still one more terminal with nothing attached. It's outside of the plastic area where the other wires are connected. I'm wondering if this needs to be grounded or what goes there.

Not sure what it is. If you have the other 4 hooked up correctly, it should be good.

ok I just wanna make sure. It seems everyone's switch has it though cause my original as well as the repro I ordered have it. I'm still having a short somewhere in ym system and it's really getting on my nerves. That and my Starter solenoid just clicks so something is wrong there.

This wiring system is a pain in my butt. It's not hard but if something is wrong it's frustrating as can be.

That and my Starter solenoid just clicks so something is wrong there.

I'm actually just running a battery charger right now so that I'm not too worried about. I am having a problem where the wipers will work for like 1 minute then the entire car loses power and the lights go off and it keeps cycling as if something is shorted out. Everything is grounded to the best of my knowledge.

Also I think my dimmer switch may be broken as my headlights only work in high mode and not in low which is weird.

I think I may have a blown blinker fuse cause with everyhting hooked in correctly if I throw the switch nothing happens.

My right rear tail-light blinker switch wire gets no power no matter what. I have no idea about this one and I tested it to see if it was the bulb but there is just no power running through it.

I was just reading that battery chargers have a pulsating power so could this be the cause of my power interruption and not a short?

It may also be the reason why when I turn the ignition to start it just makes the solenoid click nonstop with nothing else.

I still feel like it is a grounding issue though but I really have no clue. I'll have to trace all the wires again.

I used to get that clicking all the time. It's your battery. Thats what was screwing up mine. Also follow all of the ignition connections and make sure they are secured tight. Sounds like you have a heck of a wiring issue on your hands. Good luck.

It's not that bad of an issue when you're rewiring a whole car haha. We'll see how this goes. It's frustrating as hell but I have learned so much about this car's electric system that once this thing works I'll be able to figure stuff out right away cause I put it all there hah.

A battery charger may introduce wierd symptoms. Install a battery with a full charge and see what happens. Troubleshoot one system at a time.

The dimmer switch should be easy to troubleshoot. One wire with power going in when the light switch is on, and the other two outputs should alternate when switched.

yea I'm pretty sure the dimmer switch as well as the turn signal switch are junk. I think I blew that fuse too so I'll stop on my way home and buy a new battery that I've been putting off for a few weeks now haha.

I knew I had to buy one eventually.
