Illinois Emissions

Im going to have to go for an emissions test soon and i was wondering if anyone knows what exactly the test is going to consist of. The last time i was in for a test, it was with another car and all they did was put the probe in the tail pipe. Also if anyone knows if i would be better off to get a stock 4-cat pipe or a high flow 2-cat pipe. and finally any hints/tips to pass. I havent been able to drive the car for almost 2 years because of not being able to pass (i have never tried cause i have an off road h pipe), so any help on passing will be greatly appreciated!!!!

I take it you still have the stock or shorty headers on your car. Best tips to pass the emissions test are this

1. put your timing back to 10 degrees
2. either get some cats or borrow a 4 cat h-pipe.
3. hook up your air pump
4. make sure tps voltage is lower than .98
5.CHANGE YOUR OIL right before you go- less crankcase fumes the better.
6. Just make sure your car is in overall good running condition
7. Make sure your O-ring is on the gas cap.
8. No exhaust leaks either!
9. Make sure your air filter is clean.
10. No check engine lights on , they get all childish if they see a check engine light

This will get you pointed in the right direction. I am not sure what mods you have to your car but if it is a stock cam, do all that is listed above and you should have no problem..

Your car is non obdII so they will drive it on the rollers

I recommend in addition the previously mentioned items that you go on a warm or better yet hot day if possible. Run your stock ~190 degree thermostat. Make sure your cars warmed up prior to the test. They have a much more sophisticated test now with a dyno.

I've live din Illionois all of my life, and have not ever had to take an emissions test - why do you?

Depends upon what county you live in.
