I'm putting a new head unit in my '68 coupe and I can't find an illumination lead for the head unit. I have the switch and battery leads but not illumination. Does anyone know a wire to tap into that will sub, or the colors of a suitable wire?

By new head unit, I assume your talking about a stereo. If that's the case, the illumination should be internal in the unit. The switched power lead should also illuminate the unit when you turn it on.

If not you can pick up an illumination lead, switched to you headlight circuit, behind the gauge cluster. Just splice into one of the leads to the gauge illumination bulbs.

Hope that helps,
Tim

Yeah it's a stereo. It has a seperate illumination that comes on w/ the lights. I was originally going to use the headlight switch, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a wire closer to the center of the dash that I could use. Thanks for your help.

BTW, nice car. sounds like it has a sweet set up. Where can I see some more pictures of it. The shelby tails look better on a 65-66 fastback than they do on a 67-68!
